Thai massage practitioner and instructor Ananda Apfelbaum, author of Thai Massage Sacred Bodywork, has degenerative discs and vertebrae from a previous dance career. She had to learn to work in ways to avoid injury. “This includes letting go of certain moves if the client is too heavy or too inflexible for me to manage well,” she says. “Each practitioner has to know his or her limits and work within that.”
Hi, I went for a Hot Stone Massage on Sunday, 24/07/2016. When the lady had placed the stones on my ...back, I had told her that it was too hot. She then shifted the stones a little bit to the left and didn't do anything else. As it was my first time having done a Hot Stone Massage, I was not sure of how hot the stones were meant to be. During the massage, I felt some pain but didn't think too much of it. When I got home, I noticed that I had a second degree burn on my back from where a stone was placed. I had to seek medical assistance due to the burn. I'm so disappointed that the lady whom had massaged me did not point this out to me when she was massaging me. She did not make it a point to tell me that I had been burnt nor did she say anything to me when I was leaving. Surely the lady whom had massaged me would know how hot these stones should be when using them in a massage. I hope that in the future, all staff are adequately trained for the services that they are providing. I have sent you a message in regards to this issue but have yet to receive a response. I look forward to hearing from you in regards to this matter. I have posted a photo of the burn wound on your Facebook page, as I am unable to post photos in reviews. See More

This is the “classic” among the GREEN PEEL® peeling treatments. After a thorough evaluation, the Herbal Peeling mixture is intensively massaged into the skin. Blood circulation is increased, the supply of oxygen and nutrition is improved and skin renewal is stimulated. This effect is stopped after two to five days depending on the skin texture with a more or less strong peeling process of the skin. During this time, the skin needs to be treated at home with special Dr. Schrammek skin care products. To conclude the GREEN PEEL® Herbal Peeling Treatment Classic, the aesthetician performs a beauty finishing treatment after five days and nourishes the now particularly receptive skin with valuable ingredients.

I was pretty excited to visit Erawan based on the great reviews it received.  However, the masseuse… I was pretty excited to visit Erawan based on the great reviews it received.  However, the masseuse twisted my neck too hard (or in a wrong way?) during one of the Thai massage stretches.  I woke up the next day with a ton of neck soreness, but I tried to shrug it off as normal post-massage soreness.  But ever since the day after until now (5 days later), the pain has been excruciating and I've barely been able to move my neck.  To make matters worse, I was here in Japan for my honeymoon so it made it really hard for me to enjoy the week.  Visitors beware! Thai massage – or Nuat Thai – combines both physical and energetic aspects. It is a deep, full-body massage progressing from the feet up, and focusing on sen or energy lines throughout the body, with the aim of clearing blockages in these lines, and thus stimulating the flow of blood and lymph throughout the body. It draws on yoga, acupressure and reflexology.
4. Make sounds. The intensity of a Vietnamese massage is partly due to the various groans and shouts that the masseuse makes while carrying out the techniques. There’s more power in a movement when you exhale and let your voice loose. When you make contact with the skin, release a grunt or a roar that signifies the effort you’re putting into the act. Each movement should be accompanied by its own sound. The combination of skin pounding and slapping with your vocal exhalations is what makes the experience exciting for your partner.

The therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches and also applies deep muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure. Thai massage also utilizes energy work, which, according to ancient Asian culture, treats the subtle energetic field within the body. It corrects blockages, deficiencies, and imbalances in the flow of this energy, which then is believed to improve the client's health.

During the 1930s and 1940s massage's influence decreased as a result of medical advancements of the time, while in the 1970s massage's influence grew once again with a notable rise among athletes.[10] Until the 1970s, nurses used massage to reduce pain and aid sleep.[21] The massage therapy industry is continuously increasing. In 2009, U.S. consumers spent between $4 and $6 billion on visits to massage therapists.[22] In 2015, research estimates that massage therapy was a $12.1 billion industry.[23]

Thailand culture is more than about music, painting and fine foods. It arises from a complex system of mutual respect and politeness that binds people together. Massage has a long tradition as a healing therapy and has been used by many different cultures for centuries to treat and relieve a wide range of disorders. Thai massage is based on thai medicine, an ancient holistic approach to healing the body-heart-mind-spirit. Thai medicine strives to treat the underlying cause of any illness by addressing imbalances in these three essences, not just the physical body. Massage is one of the easiest ways of attaining and maintaining good health and well being. It is healing instinct, innate of all of us, to rub an aching knee, or stroke a furrowed brow. Touch is so natural that without it people become depressed and irritable. Our sense of touch is registered by our skin, the largest and most sensitive organ. Throughout history people have used the power of touch from our hands to warmth, comfort and reassure. Massage has wonderful healing powers that even today's doctors largely support. Many of our customers are doctors

I'd been in Tokyo, Japan for four days and have done extensive walking. I had been feeling pain to my feet and hip. I finally decided to Yelp a place and saw good reviews. I made my appointment through Yelp. Make sure you give them the day, time, name and type of service on your first communication. It's helpful...I finally came here and felt so much more flexible and the pain on my hip is gone. My feet may require rest to not feel anything but certainly feel so much better. The staff is wonderful and are very careful with the stretches they do. I highly recommend to make the trip here. Is worth it!
This place is absolutely wonderful!  I have gotten massages all over the place from Asha, Heavenly Massage, Massage a Envy, Ritz Carlton hotel, resorts in Mexico etc... although all of the mentioned places are awesome and have their own individual thing that makes them awesome however I think I have finally found the place and therapist that I will be seeing regularly.  Summer, she is an amazing therapist who literally moved my body in ways that I didn't think we're possibly - cracking and stretching my back, deep and thorough massage of my head/scalp, neck, shoulders, back, legs and even a phenomenal massage of my feet!  I am telling you, if you haven't been here, it's an absolute must that you go and see Summer.  This massage is completely different from the tradition deep tissue massage that you will receive at other places, Summer literally even walked on my back and used her feet/knees to massage my muscles.
These ladies are very talented! They do the most amazing deep tissue, detox and stretching massage! I've been now about 5 times and they have some amazing skills. Hint: have them walk on your back, it's the real deal. Very professional and always a relaxing treat when the tension knots are really deep and a regular massage just won't do. Come see these ladies! They won't disappoint.

In regulated provinces massage therapists are known as Registered Massage Therapists, in Canada only four provinces regulate massage therapy:[95] British Columbia, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick.[96] Regulated provinces have, since 2012, established inter-jurisdiction competency standards.[97][95] Quebec is not provincially regulated. Massage therapists may obtain a certification with one of various associations operating. There is the Professional Association of Specialized Massage Therapists of Quebec, also named Mon Réseau Plus, which represents 6,300 massage therapists (including orthotherapists, naturotherapists and others), the Quebec Federation of massage therapists (FMQ), and the Association québécoise des thérapeutes naturels; however, none of these are regulated by provincial law.

My husband and I come here frequently. He has sciatic, psoas pain and I have all sorts of pain (tmj, neck, back, metatarsalgia, de quervain, etc lol). He discovered this thru yelp, after trying out numerous massage services in the bay area & weve almost given up. We never considered going to a Chiro either. Thai massage is hard massage, we just couldn't get anywhere else. We tried many other massage places but we always come back here. Unlike other massage places, any staff you get here will give you the same effect, and no one is not good enough or no single staff stands out cause any of them does. There's no one massager that you need to wait for to get an appointment. We call to schedule an appt but we never request for anyone and still get the same results. Their massage is like assisted yoga, take a pause here and imagine that...I mean, dont drink anything with milk or whipped cream, if youre even slightly lactose intolerant...before the sesh...if u get what i mean. Their restroom is nice too. The trick is to not resist but to trust, give in and relax your body while they're doing their thing. We call this our "therapy". We do feel like newborns every after session, ready to go back to our desk jobs, fresh. Sometimes, after the massage, we eat at the next door Vietnamese restaurant. It feels like a mini quick vacation.
In the US, licensure is the highest level of regulation and this restricts anyone without a license from practicing massage therapy or by calling themselves that protected title. Certification allows only those who meet certain educational criteria to use the protected title and registration only requires a listing of therapists who apply and meet an educational requirement.[122] It is important to note that a massage therapist may be certified, but not licensed. Licensing requirements vary per state, and often require additional criteria be met in addition to attending an accredited massage therapy school and passing a required state specified exam (basically the certification requirements in many states). In the US, most certifications are locally based. However, as of March 2014, some states still do not require a license or a certification.[citation needed] However, this is thought to change eventually as more regulatory bodies governing the profession of massage are established in each state. Furthermore, some states allow license reciprocity where massage therapists who relocate can relatively easily obtain a license in their new state. Not all states provide this option.[123]

I picked this place to treat my best friend to a massage for both of us on her birthday due to the 5 stars review. The good news is that my friend had a blissful experience and really enjoyed her massage, which was the most important part of the experience, especially since this was for her birthday. However, since I am the one writing this review, I will write out my experience. I really wish I could give this place 5 stars. I really do. I came in with high expectations when I booked a reservation for both of us on a Monday after work. This is a beautiful space, and it feels like we've been transported to a calm, zen space that you would have never expected in the busy and dingy streets of the Civic Center area of San Francisco. We were taken to a room for our massage. We both had the same service, the Siam Orchid Retreat Massage. I consider myself able to withstand pretty hard massages, but I found my experience kind of painful. I hadn't expected my masseuse to use her whole weight on me, walk on me, etc. And when I made a pained noise, she kind of gave me an attitude saying, "Well, you said you wanted hard!" I'm sure it's probably a language barrier, and the masseuse who was working on my friend seemed a bit apologetic and tried to help her with the scenario, but it sure didn't make me feel any less crappy. In the end, I didn't feel any more relaxed than I did when I stepped in for our appointment. I seriously paid nearly $100 per person for this??? I've felt wayyy more blissed out after rigorous sessions of cardio and weight lifting and strength training at the gym than here. I don't think I'll be coming back, unfortunately. But I'm sure they don't need my business, they have plenty of other 5 star reviews from other reviewers here.
So if you read my previous reviews, you will see that I use to only see Summer....she answers the phone so its easy to ask her direct for an appt with her.....A month ago, Summer was gone for 2 weeks for Chinese New Year. Lily was still there so I ended up seeing her twice...and enjoyed it. When Summer got back, and to this day, I have yet to see her again for an appt. It almost seems like shes avoiding me....which might be okay, except after I had what can only be described as the WORST appt I have had...by far....given by Lily.
Proprioceptive studies are much more abundant than massage and proprioception combined, yet researchers are still trying to pinpoint the exact mechanisms and pathways involved to get a fuller understanding.[93] Proprioception may be very helpful in rehabilitation, though this is a fairly unknown characteristic of proprioception, and "current exercises aimed at 'improving proprioception' have not been demonstrated to achieve that goal".[94] Up until this point, very little has been studied looking into the effects of massage on proprioception. Some researchers believe "documenting what happens under the skin, bioelectrically and biochemically, will be enabled by newer, non-invasive technology such as functional magnetic resonance imaging and continuous plasma sampling".[92]
We are very faithful to the Thai massage tradition and therefore we try to evoke past eras through touch. After all, muscle manipulation is one of the most effective ancient techniques that has lasted until our times. Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today, especially because the feeling of pain can get worse and prevention is better than cure.
I am pretty sure that was one of the best massages I have ever had. I asked for medium pressure and she was right on point. She checked in with me at the start of the session, because I had indicated I wanted attention placed on my back on the entry form. I confirmed that's where I would like her to spend most of her time and she did. That was really cool. I know it sounds simple, but every time I fill out those forms they never ask me to confirm and I end up getting a total body massage with attention never placed in one single area as I had hoped.
Burmese massage is a full body massage technique that starts from head to toes, drawing on acupuncture, reflexology, and kneading. Signature massage strokes include acupressure using the elbows, quick gentle knocking of acupressure points, and slow kneading of tight muscles. The massage is aimed to improve blood circulation and quality of sleep, while at the same time help to promote better skin quality.

I should have written a review sooner but I have to admit -- I would like to keep the place a secret for myself and the others who regularly go there. I started with a 90 minute session every other week and quickly increased to a 90 minute session weekly. For every session but one, I have seen Yupa. She is incredible! Besides being a sweet, generous and giving human being, Yupa has excellent massage skills. She is very intuitive about what areas require attention but nevertheless always asks before starting whether there are any changes since our last session or areas I want more work. I have formal training as a massage therapist so I am quite particular about who I see. I highly recommend Yupa (just don't book my session times- LOL). I can also recommend Supinya who covered for one session when Yupa was out of town.
Medical Massage is a controversial term in the massage profession.[50] Many use it to describe a specific technique. Others use it to describe a general category of massage and many methods such as deep tissue massage, myofascial release and triggerpoint therapy as well as osteopathic techniques, cranial-sacral techniques and many more can be used to work with various medical conditions.[51]
Eric Spivack, who is a Thai massage practitioner and instructor based in Seattle, Washington, found this out first hand. Plagued with repetitive neck, shoulder and hand injuries, Spivack considered giving up his practice—and then he attended a Thai massage demonstration. “It was the first time I ever saw a therapist use feet,” he says. He has now been to Thailand 10 times, studying under nearly two dozen different teachers, and runs his own Thai massage school, Soaring Crane Massage & Acupuncture in Seattle.
Thai massage therapy requires extensive training, and the preeminent place for it is Wat Po in Bangkok. The school offers three certification levels, with the third one alone requiring 800 hours. (Graduates are issued a certificate from the Thailand Ministry of Public Health.) There are numerous programs around the world with solid training as well, but many die-hard therapists make the pilgrimage to Thailand to acquire at least some authentic knowledge base.
At Siam Thai Massage, traditional techniques provide sore patients with full-body relief. During massages, therapists gradually shift clients between yoga-like positions and apply gentle, rhythmic pressure and slow stretches to help soothe stiffness and improve flexibility. Thai reflexology treatments focus on the feet to stimulate other parts of the body, and deep-tissue massages work out tough, painful knots.
In the recent report on Thai traditional massage, Yoopat et al. reported their observation on three varieties of Thai traditional massage and concluded that “some forearm fatigue was decreased significantly among the three massage techniques.”[1] In fact, Thai traditional massage is a widely used massage technique in Thailand and is presently accepted by the Thai Ministry of Public Health. The technique can be described to be a kind of acupressure massage. Kumnerddee noted that Thai traditional massage was effective in bringing about muscle relaxation but that the technique was inferior to the worldwide well-known Chinese acupuncture.[2]

I had heard so many positive things about this place from friends, but am not really into the walking on my back and popping my joints scene so I avoided it.  Fast forward to today my lower back was in so much pain I could barely move.  My normal massage guy was booked, so I relented.  BEST DECISION!!  Noy eased by back pain, and eliminated knots I didn't even know I had.  I will be going back here soon.  Noy was magic.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based massage therapist Beth Brown also finds that practicing Thai massage can help her deal with her own pain and stress. “If I am holding stress—a headache, for example, or tightness in my shoulder—doing a Thai massage often takes my pain away,” she says. Often, too, after a long day of massage, giving a Thai massage at the end of the day will rejuvenate her, as a yoga or meditation class might.
Ive had massages all over the country from Hawaii and Cali to New York and Jersey as well as Philippines and Guam ... Anna, Noi and Choi from Thai Spa 2 are hands down the best thai masseuse's I've ever experienced. I prefer deep, strong massages ... and the strength of any of these 3 can make u cringe, but i love it!  Once you try thai, u'll forget about any other types of massages!
Due to the great reviews, we decided to give this place a try. We were able to easily make an appointment via email with the company for the next day at the Asakusa Temple location. This location was a little tough to find, however, the pictures and description on the website did help some. Cell service wasn't great so we weren't able to look up the entrance specifics which certainly was a hassle! The place is up on the second floor behind the Mini Stop convenience store. We were immediately greeted by the staff with a jasmine scented cool wash cloth and cold ice water. After a cursory questionnaire and review of massage services, we were led to a Thai style massage mat. It is firmer and on the floor for the therapy. They have you change into a loose fit outfit before starting. We opted for the Leelavadee 150min combo. It was divine! Both the Thai massage and the essential oil deep tissue massage was great. Be forewarned that with the oil deep tissue, they are very liberal with the oil! It gets everywhere. Their massages are tailored to your particular concerns. The therapy ends with another jasmine scented wash cloth and ice cold water. We whole heartedly recommend this place. It is incredibly clean which is also a winning point. The ladies are strong and you will get a great massage! The prices are very reasonable! Don't hesitate! Make an appointment with them if you get the chance. We certainly will when we return to Tokyo.

AD 1813 The Royal Gymnastic Central Institute for the training of gymnastic instructors was opened in Stockholm, Sweden, with Pehr Henrik Ling appointed as principal. Ling developed what he called the "Swedish Movement Cure." Ling died in 1839, having previously named his pupils as the repositories of his teaching. Ling and his assistants left little proper written account of their methods. [8][15][16]
Very good! From the name, you must know that this is a traditional Chinese / Asian style massage. If you've never had that before, you should know that it is very different from normal massages you get in America. They use their elbows and knees to dig deep into your muscles. If you are up for it, they will also walk on your back. It feels great. There are several Asian women that work here, and they are very tiny, probably less than 100 pounds. So, it doesn't really hurt when they walk on your back. They are very good. I highly recommend going.
While on vacation in Las Vegas, my upper back, shoulders, and neck were starting to get tired/tight from me lugging around my camera gear (DSLR camera, battery grip/pack, & speedlight flash) around my neck for 4 days at roughly 4 hours each day. My legs and feet were also tired from all the walking, standing, and running on the Strip. I was looking for a massage and the place that I was staying at offered massages but I found the prices to be too expensive. I had also tried the water massage beds offered in some malls (including the Showcase Mall) and although those water massage beds were relaxing, I preferred a more firm, deep tissue type massage to try to get rid of the knots that I was sure were building up in my shoulders & upper back. As luck would have it, there was a discussion forum about firm, deep tissue massages in the Las Vegas Talk forum. I checked out the prices and the review and called to make an appointment. Even factoring the Lyft ride to/from the place, I calculated the price to be less than how much it would cost me to get a similar type massage at the place I was staying at or any Strip hotel spa. I arrived early and was told that I should come back in ~30 minutes. Since the temperature was cold outside, I asked if I could stay inside and there wasn't an issue. I was told that I could lay on the bed while I waited but I decided I would just sit there. I used the Yelp app on my phone to check in and there was a discount. I spoke with the person behind the counter about the discount and I was informed that because I wanted a 90 minute massage and the 90 minute massage was already discounted, it would not apply. When the person was ready I was escorted to the room. Inside the room there were 2 massage beds. I was asked how long I wanted and I mentioned that I wanted 90 minutes. I was then asked to undress and go underneath the towel. I was told that this place also specializes in back walking so I requested a few minutes of that. Above the massage tables are 2 bars so the massage therapist can hold on as to not apply all her weight on the customer. I thought that I could handle firm massages but Kim gave me one of the firmest, deep tissue massages that I've ever experienced. The oil that she used had a burning and soothing feeling to it. Part of the 90 minute massage also involved stretching certain muscles. At the end of the 90 minutes, even though I was a little bit sore from the deep tissue massage, I felt a lot better. When the massage was over, I got dressed, went to the front counter, and paid as well as left a tip. While I used the Lyft app on my phone to get ride to get back to the Strip, I was offered a loyalty card. The only thing about the loyalty card is that it was created/made for 60 minute massages and not 90 minute massages since a 90 minute massage only gets 1 stamp on the card. If you like firm (deep tissue) massages, this is the place to go.
Mary was great. She gives awesome pressure and is very knowledgeable. I like a lot of pressure and she exceeded my expectations. Also had yunee(don't know the spelling but pronounced U-NEE).  She was also great, especially if you like a more soothing touch. Almost Swedish but with good pressure. My fiancé had katie and he loved his massage with her. He said she was able to pop almost every joint in his body and felt so much relief after. Highly recommend requesting any of these 3 ladies. Thanks for the amazing massages!!!
They are so nice too. The girls really seem to care about your needs and wants for your back and/or muscle areas. Also, the strength of the massage you are looking for they stick to. I recommend the Swedish/deep muscle mix massage. It’s the perfect mix of stretching and deep muscle work (or as deep as you want it to be). I love it and always leave feeling relaxed and much more flexible/loose. I highly recommend this Spa.
If I could give it no stars I would, upon entry everything seemed well until they took our payment. The 75 min treatment we were promised, became a 40 min. They kept coming in and out the room stopping our treatment, talking a singing through our treatment, the massage itself was awful at one point she slapped and punched my back several times, I have had Thai massage a lot but never like this, one point I asked her to massage my lower led and she snapped saying I have another client at 4. I was only 30 mins in to my treatment. I got annoyed asks to speak to the manger at this point my therapist is having a go at me saying I have other clients and we are busy, the manager came in shouting denying they agreed to 75 mins saying we never do that and we didn't agree then the argument got confusing as one min they are saying yes it's the same treatment for an hour, the rest of the staff were laughing and some arguing with us, once we got out tried to ring the owner Chris who kept saying he was busy and another staff member complaining to him saying they won't go!! All we wanted to do was to inform them of our consumer rights and to let the boss know that the staff are unprofessional and rude on top of all that they left the room wide open when we were undressed and they had other customers outside! Save your money and time and go else where.

And in fact at first glance from outside you would not think this was a good place in fact I used to live walking distance from there and hadn't been for years finally a friend told me about them so I gave them a try first off with Crystal she is a very good massage unfortunately she no longer works at this location so then I went to you having massages with Sonya very strong which is what I used to like now days April is my therapist she does just the right pressure for me.
During the massage, my masseuse was pretty professional, she used the right amount of pressure and always asked me If I ok. She recommended walking on my body gently, she has a lot of experience. After my massage my body felt very soft and relaxed.  I asked her name which Tanya, I read a lot of good reviews from Tanya. I finally know why Tanya so popular unite I tried her massage!!

This is an awesome massage place. After a long road trip ended up in this massage center. First off all the staff are really friendly and super look and very knowledgeable about therapy. The lemon grass tea is awesome at the end. The massage is really a great relief on overall and very nice technique in handling nerves. Had different levels of pressure with different techniques in Thai massage. Over all it's a great massage and great experience in a wonderful panama trip.
It's been about a week since I went. I was definitely pleased with my massage. I have gone to a place in mililani but My husbands client recommended I go here so I said "hey why not it's another massage therapist recommending me go there" so I did. It was the best he ever. I dozed off here and there. Wasn't to rough on me. I'm super sensitive to people rubbing my knots. They usually are painful but not here. I'll definitely be going back in a few weeks. The staff was super nice. I enjoyed my ginger honey tea after my massage as well. Much mahalos ladies. Recommendation for first timers- make sure after a massage you drink plenty of water. Massages are like work outs. Stay hydrated.

In short, traditional Thai massage works along these meridians using a combination of yoga stretches, reflexology, acupressure, adjustments, and internal organ massage making traditional Thai massage one of the most energizing and healing forms of massage you will ever experience.

A considerable amount of privacy is allotted in most places offering Thai massage, making it an ideal solution for the individual who isn't quite up for the challenge of yoga. Let's face it, not everyone is equipped with the physique or poise necessary to squeeze into spandex and curl into the Downward Facing Dog position. Yoga, for the most part, is available in group sessions. Though spandex is not a requirement, it's not uncommon to practice among a variety of other adults, all of whom happen to be more flexible than you. For a more intimate experience, Thai massage manages to produce similar somatic results without the awkwardness of being observed by seemingly elastic peers.

We use special thumb and finger techniques to work on small areas, or reflexes, on the feet. These reflex areas are connected to different parts of the body, so that in working over all the reflexes on the feet. You are in fact affecting the entire body. The main benefit of the reflexology is relaxation, but it also improves the blood supply and the functioning of nerve impulses.

After experiencing the art of traditional Thai massage in the “professional Thai massage for health” course, this sophisticated course provides serious training to show the students the original aspiration and full potential of Thai massage. Massage as a traditional Thai medical practice is able to cure diseases and restore health. The students will study the required methods and techniques to treat at least 25 ailments; e.g. frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, stiff neck, ankle and wrist sprain, etc.
Having been to Thailand and experiencing what a real deep tissue massage, this Thai spa is the closest you can get without actually going to Thailand. The wifey and I walked-in without an appointment on a Saturday afternoon and we were seen within 3 minutes. We both got the 60 minute deep tissue and they spent there time rubbing out all the knots. The masseuses spend a quite amount of time back walking utilizing Ashiatsu barefoot massage method. I was amazed that s he did get all the knots out in my calves that I never even knew were there. My legs felt like jelly after and noticeable wobbly the next day. When she did work on my upper back, she able to press out the knots above my shoulder blades, painful yet wonderful. The one thing my wife and I did not like was the bed did feel a bit damp and oily from past customers. Besides that fact, definitely worth the massage. You got spend a little more to get a real deep massage. Now I know the difference of going to those $20-30 massage spa's, you pay for what you get.

Middle-Ages: Medical knowledge, including that of massage, made its way from Rome to Persia in the Middle Ages.[citation needed] Many of Galen's manuscripts, for instance, were collected and translated by Hunayn ibn Ishaq in the 9th century. Later in the 11th century copies were translated back into Latin, and again in the 15th and 16th centuries, when they helped enlighten European scholars as to the achievements of the Ancient Greeks. This renewal of the Galenic tradition during the Renaissance played a very important part in the rise of modern science.
Traditional Thai massage rarely uses oils or lotions, and the recipient remains clothed during a treatment. There is constant body contact between the practitioner and client, but rather than rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked in order to clear energy blockages and relieve tension. The practitioner uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, knees and feet to create a dance of movement on the body of the recipient. In this process, joints are opened, muscles and tendons are stretched, internal organs are toned, and energy is balanced. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and physical and mental well being.

I have extremely bad neck/shoulder back along with lower back pain related to pinched nerves but Summer was able to relieve this pain. Even it is temporarily (because I just got my massage a few hours before writing this) it was definitely worth it and I will absolutely be returning. $70 for an hour is reasonable but their massage is MUCH better than any other traditional place that you have visited. The only downfall is that this place isn't one of the posh, tranquility type places like Asha (get extra pampered, zero sound/noises in entire facility, heated beds etc) - unfortunately I could clearly hear through the walls of conversations taking place but they didn't last long so it didn't really bother me. All in all, $70, extremely unique and wonderful experience and massage! Go see Summer!!
Massage used in the medical field includes decongestive therapy used for lymphedema[10] which can be used in conjunction with the treatment of breast cancer. Light massage is also used in pain management and palliative care. Carotid sinus massage is used to diagnose carotid sinus syncope and is sometimes useful for differentiating supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) from ventricular tachycardia. It, like the valsalva maneuver, is a therapy for SVT.[52] However, it is less effective than management of SVT with medications.[53]

Thai massage typically works with compression — rhythmic pressing movements directed into muscle tissues by either the hand or fingers. Thai massage usually takes place on a futon mat on the floor, with the client wearing loose or stretchy clothing like yoga gear. The therapist is also on the mat and moves your body into various stretches and positions, without any work on your part. This is why it is sometimes called "lazy man's yoga". Thai massage can be both relaxing and energizing, so it is a good choice if you want to be active after your massage.
Massage of Chinese Medicine is known as An Mo (按摩, pressing and rubbing) or Qigong Massage, and is the foundation of Japan's Anma. Categories include Pu Tong An Mo (general massage), Tui Na An Mo (pushing and grasping massage), Dian Xue An Mo (cavity pressing massage), and Qi An Mo (energy massage). Tui na (推拿) focuses on pushing, stretching, and kneading muscles, and Zhi Ya (指壓) focuses on pinching and pressing at acupressure points. Technique such as friction and vibration are used as well.[69]

One of the biggest benefits is the relaxation that comes from it. Numerous studies have shown that those who have massages are more relaxed, and many seek out massage as a form of relaxation. This, paired with the yoga-like elements of Thai massage, which is also relaxing, ensures that Thai massage can help even the most tense person find relaxation. Along with this, Thai massage is an excellent way to relieve stress. Since stress can have long-term and serious effects on the body and mind, using Thai massage to help relieve stress will help improve overall health.
March Madness indeed. March was a busy month that contained flu's, cold weather, and extra cuddles but March is Birthday month for Mary so that means, as we locals would say, "go big or go home". We enjoy spa/massage experiences wherever it may be or what is offered; therefore, it was only right to treat her self - with a massage. Usually, it means I get to tag along for the experience; her birthday is a joy for all. Yay! Through the joys of social media, we noticed a few of our friends visiting a place named Siam Thai Massage & Spa, on a regular basis. It was our first time visiting but we called, booked a couples package and scheduled right away - As far as timing and flexibility, we were running a solid thirty minutes behind our appointment time but the staff at Siam Thai were gracious enough to start later with no interruptions to other customers. Parking was a bit complicated but only because it was our first time there and Hawaii traffic is no cake walk. The views, however, offer a 180-degree view from 26 floors up, overlooking most of Honolulu. The building is the tallest one with blue reflective glass, across a fun gaming place and, more prominently, the convention center. The mood was set romanticly for Mary's birthday. The spa room is decorated with heart petals on the bed. You can actually call ahead of time for any occasion and they will accommodate the occasion by decorating the room for you (extra charge). With the room decorated and the view of the city, it's a great combination! The awe-inspiring view as the sun cascaded down downtown Honolulu put our mind at ease immediately. We opted for the Siam Thai Experience (for two) which is $120 for 60 minutes. Being that it was Mary's birthday, we got an extra half hour. As for the magical masseuse massages, they were beyond words but here's our best interpretation: *engphhh, *crackkk, *aghhh. Realistically, it was a combination yoga poses, stretches and indubitably, a full body massage; so with that, let the mind run wild. Tip: keep underwear on. After the treatment, we were back to the lobby and surprised us with ice cream for Mary's birthday! Along with hot ginger green tea. We don't guarantee everyone will get ice cream, but hot tea will is served to everyone after the massage! Siam Thai is one of the most affordable and bang for its buck, couples massages we've had in Hawaii! For a romantic date or recovery day after a long work week, Siam Thai Massage & Spa is a top choice. View some other packages they offer on their website!
2. Generate force. When you’re putting pressure on a certain area of the body, use momentum and the full weight of your whole body to apply as much force as possible. Take advantage of gravity to hit your partner’s body with plenty of energy. Dig in by positioning your body over your arm so that your weight transfers to that specific spot. Give a hard rub to finish off the movement, and then prepare for the next area of her body.
This is such an unusual place. Not sure how they got all these fabulous reviews. The first time I decided to try it, I called and made an appointment. The woman who answered the phone didn't really speak english, so when I told her that I wanted to make an appointment she kept saying "ok ok ok". I felt that she didn't understand. I showed up to the appointment the following day and the person at the front was so confused when I told her I had an appointment. Needless to say she begrudgingly took me back to a room and left. Another woman comes in and starts massaging. As she is massaging I notice loud chewing sounds. Turns out she was chewing gum loudly and popping it too! I had never experienced anything like that during a msaage! The massage itself was ok with deep pressure, and they offered cupping therapy. They never bother to ask you why you are there or what your preferences are. Even when I kept asking her to focus on my neck and shoulders she just tried to follow her own routine and seemed annoyed. I decided to give it another try, so called again to make an appointment, and sure enough a woman answered and seemed confused when I requested the appointment. I asked if summer was there since I read great reviews about her. The woman started yelling at me!!! Honestly this place is so shady and unprofessional, I don't know how hell they got all these supposed stellar reviews on multipe sites like tripadvisor and thumbtack. For 70$ you can find so many other wonderful, professional and attentive massage places in the area.
After our long drive from San Diego my husband and I wanted to start our vacation off right.  We called and made appointments the same day we were arriving into town.  We had the couples massage and it was awesome!  The massage room was very clean and everything smelled nice.  The ladies both did a great job.  We would definitely return the next time we are here.

My wife and I came to Las Vegas for our honeymoon. After party's for several days, I invited the spouse to a massage. I found this place on Yep after discovering the (exorbitant) prices at the Aria, where we stayed. The ladies at this spa took us in right away. We were walk ins. My wife got a combination massage. I got a deep rub massage. I told the masseuse my problem areas. She walked on my back and legs after my approval. She was very thorough and efficient. I was like melting butter afterwards. Why not 5 stars? Although my wife enjoyed the massage, she felt that it was too hard at times. She would have preferred a licensed massage therapist. As for me, I kinda like it rough. I'd go back here next time we're im town.
This place is in a strip mall, so the first time, I wasn't sure what to expect. Inside, it is small, but comfortable. The massage, was wonderful. The rooms are private. My masseuse was incredible. People ask me what a Thai Massage is. I say it is similar to a regular massage, but with yoga where they do the work for you. They bend and stretch you to get all those kinks out. This has become one of my favorite massage parlors. I always leave feeling refreshed.
I have gotten a number of massages over the course of my life. None are in the same league as Siam Thai. The actual location atop the Century Center is well designed and calming. My masseuse was a woman named Amy. I requested hard pressuee, and boy did she deliver. For those that have not done had Thai massage before, it is unbelievably executed. The above was my original review which culminated in a 5 star rating. But I have to drop it to 4 stars now. I had bought a gift certificate off their website, which was to be emailed to my brother as a gift. However my brother never received the email. That is fine and understandable. However for the past couple days, they ignored my email, Yelp message and text message. I decided to call. On the phone they tried to dodge things still, which seemed questionable at best (possibly shady). However supposedly they will honor the order confirmation that I received. Again the issue is not that my brother did not receive the email. It was everything that followed.

I love going to Traditions Massage and Facial Spa. Although I live in Tennessee my friend and I try to go when i'm in town. The Chinese culture has practiced the prophylactic health aspects of Chinese best massage therapies on a budget for over 5,000 years and passed down the knowledge and techniques for generations; however, many people do not experience the true benefits of ancient Chinese therapy or understand what kind of relief they should be experiencing. The earliest mentioning about the specific Tui-Na terms was dating back to around 2700 BC,

Massage has been shown to reduce neuromuscular excitability by measuring changes in the Hoffman's reflex (H-reflex) amplitude.[89] A decrease in peak-to-peak H-reflex amplitude suggests a decrease in motoneuron excitability.[90] Others explain, "H-reflex is considered to be the electrical analogue of the stretch reflex...and the reduction" is due to a decrease in spinal reflex excitability.[91] Field (2007) confirms that the inhibitory effects are due to deep tissue receptors and not superficial cutaneous receptors, as there was no decrease in H-reflex when looking at light fingertip pressure massage.[92] It has been noted that "the receptors activated during massage are specific to the muscle being massaged", as other muscles did not produce a decrease in H-reflex amplitude.[90]

In addition there are many professional bodies which have a required minimum standard of education and hold relevant insurance policies including: the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT),[111] the Complementary Therapists Association (CThA),[112] and the Complementary Health Professionals (CHP).[113] In contrast to the CNHC these bodies exist to support therapists rather than clients.
I had a great experience here. I have some problems with shin splints and tight muscles in my legs from playing soccer. I went here specifically because they offered a deep tissue massage which would help with that. I got there without an appointment and I was able to get an appoint in the next 10 minutes which was awesome. I was a little worried that the girls would not be able to massage my muscles strong enough, but boy was I wrong! They definitely know what they’re doing and massage just hard enough to get all the knots out, but not too hard to make it painful. The girl who massaged me also had some kind of intuition for exactly where the knots were and was able to target them really well. I think I will go here more often to help out my leg muscles.

This was just so weird. I got there and they were able to see me immediately. I let them know I am 9 months pregnant and they said no problem, they do prenatal massage. I get in and the therapist was HORRIBLE! She spent 40+ minutes rubbing the middle of my back. That's it. I told her my neck and shoulders and especially my feet hurt and she wouldn't move from the same spot. She finally said we were done and I was shocked! She never rubbed my hands, lower back, neck, or my feet! I mean come on, who doesn't rub a pregnant persons feet? I even checked at the end to see if my feet were gross or something but no, took a shower right before I got there. It was just so strange, I ended up coming home in tears and rubbing myself which would have cost less than the $75 I paid them for absolutely nothing.
Shiatsu massage therapy relies on the use the fingers, thumbs and palm to apply pressure to various areas of the body’s surface to help heal common ailments and conditions, and correct imbalances in the body. Pressure applied to points on the body promotes energy flow and corrects disharmonies throughout the patient's body. In addition to being a deeply relaxing experience, Shiatsu helps relieve stress, treat pain and illness, and contributes to a patient's overall health and wellbeing.

Giving this place 5 stars doesn't mean I would recommend Chinese Traditional Massage to everyone. If you approach massages as pain relief via eastern Medicine like I benefit, "Summer" could help you greatly My neck/shoulder/back are in constant tension, that the pain cause by my upper body makes me never notice my tired/sore legs from standing from working 40+ hours a week Summer find the nucleus of my neck tension immediately in a way that very few CMTs can & relieves my upper body pain can I comment w/ "How do you know where & how do you relieve it so quickly perfectly?" and Summer responds with something along the lines of "Duh" "That's why you're here" & She's 100% right & worth every penny Then once she handles my neck/shoulder tension, funny enough my legs/ankles/feet tighten up like I've been walking forever which she's provide the same relief where I walk out feeling & might even be taller walking out The best way to get an appt w/ Summer is to call a couple days ahead I get the 90 minute Thai massage for 120$ & it's worth every penny for me This is not Asha, Massage Envy, The Four Seasons, nor a gross place. Always clean & comfortable Their phones ring & front door bell rings & massage gets paused to handle walk-ins/call ins. Summer heals me until my job gets the best of me to then return, So what could be considered interruptions are pauses to me because MY PAIN IS GONE Bonus is the scalp massage & she sits your up on the table & stretches you sitting up making standing up an effortless act
Massage is hindered from reaching the gold standard of scientific research, which includes placebo-controlled and double blind clinical trials.[85][86] Developing a "sham" manual therapy for massage would be difficult since even light touch massage could not be assumed to be completely devoid of effects on the subject.[85] It would also be difficult to find a subject that would not notice that they were getting less of a massage, and it would be impossible to blind the therapist.[85] Massage can employ randomized controlled trials, which are published in peer reviewed medical journals.[85] This type of study could increase the credibility of the profession because it displays that purported therapeutic effects are reproducible.[86]

Tui na is a branch of Chinese medicine, which looks at the underlying causes of pain and illness as well as the symptoms. Because Tui na massage can be very relaxing, it is particularly useful to relieve anxiety and stress, promote relaxation and aid sleep. Like other forms of massage, it can be used preventatively, to encourage the movement of Qi (vital energy) and Blood. Tui na can be used in conjunction with the other branches of traditional Chinese medicine such as Acupuncture.

I made my appointment last minutes for my sister bday present, the owner was very helpful and happily squeezing us in their pack schedule. She was very considerate and went out of her way to make sure we got the right masseuse according on how we would like our massage. We felt welcomed from the beginning when we got there to the end of our visit. The room was very relaxing, clean, and orderly. Fresh robes were also provided while waiting. The masseuse was perfect, asked through out the whole process to make sure they were giving the right pressure. The owner even checked in on us to make sure we were well taken care of. Before we left we were offered tea and the ginger tea was decadent . Thanks to this great experience I had recommended them to my friend and myself to visit them monthly. Ps: they give a lot of time for you to prepare urself, and since the decoration is so adorable we took some picture just for the fun of it
An Indian physician named Shivago Kumar Bhucca, a contemporary of the Buddha, is often credited with developing Thai massage. The impetus was to give monks and nuns the flexibility to sit for long hours in meditation. Whatever its genesis, massage was considered such a crucial aspect of medical treatment in Thailand that until the early 20th century, the Thai Department of Health included an official massage division. Thai massage is based on releasing blockages along ten lines of energy called sen, which are similar to the meridians of traditional Chinese medicine. The technique incorporates stroking and kneading of muscles, manipulation of joints, and pressure applied to specific points in order to balance the body’s four elements—earth, water, fire, and air. But there’s also rocking, breathing, and lots of stretching—Thai massage is often referred to as “lazy yoga.”
