A Thai massage is an ancient form of healing that combines the concepts of yoga and energetic Chinese practices. About 2,500 years ago, Buddhism spread from India to Thailand. Along with this increasingly popular spiritual practice came a form of healing that had taken root in the community of Buddhists. When these new ideas reached the shores of Thailand, they mixed with the Chinese concept of the energetic body that was already being practiced.
I found this place a few months ago and it has since become a favorite spa to visit. I have lived/worked in China many years and know exactly what high level, well-trained, quality Chinese bodywork is. I've had every style performed many, many times. I usually visit Lily. We are now good friends, can practice Chines/English together during our sessions and know each other well. From the very first time I came to Chinese Traditional Massage, Lily was very friendly, professional, found out about all my past surgeries and did a great appointment. I visit about once a week. I always look forward to seeing Lily and having another great visit with her. Hey laoban...Xia Yun anmo feichong, feichong hao he ta shi hen li mao. Wo juede Xia Yun hen mei li...ke yi le? Wow! Thank you again, Yelpers! I've been dying for a massage, but I've been so busy in addition to my therapist being on vacation at my usual spot (right upstairs). I called last night when I finished work and asked for an 8p appointment for 90 minutes and boom, appointment was made - 5 Stars right there. Upon walking in, I was greeted by 2 females who were both very nice, gave me compliments, which again, earned 5 stars; I came after work in scrubs, and I knew I looked like crap lol! We chit chatted for a few minutes and she escorted me right into the room. The bed was so amazingly soft! I swear the massage beds have down stitched into it somewhere. I waited a few minutes and a lady walked in, but I didn't get her name. The massage started off rather mediocre, kind of like a first blind date where you don't expect much. We talked the whole time, and I was totally fine with that, and about 30 minutes in I thought - meh, nothing great. She started working towards my legs, but I had told her in the beginning that my shoulders were the culprit of my pain for over a month. Mid conversation I politely asked to refocus on my shoulders and THAT'S when the magic happened. She worked them bad boys like a scorned ex gf. I'm hurting today, but I feel so much better. Granted, not ALL my pain is gone, but I feel much more comfortable going through my day today. I will gladly return! Thank you for a great first time experience.
Our work is not an easy one but rewarding if we succeed in making our clients not just much better but decisively more happier. We pay attention to our clients if they let us do our craft, as you did, then we get these results if we do what we do best and that is our ancient ways to do the Tui-Na massage as it should be applied, but so many do not do.

Thai massage is a very different form than other popular forms of massage such as Swedish massage. It is more rigorous and intense, but because of this, Thai massage has many incredible benefits to those who book regular sessions with a Thai massage therapist. If you are looking to relax, relieve stress, and improve your flexibility and energy levels, Thai massage may just be the answer.

One of the best massages of my life! We went here during our trip to Tokyo to celebrate my husband's birthday. I was able to easily schedule an appointment online and they were ready for us as soon as we arrived. They welcome you with tea and then show you to the massage area. We booked a 60 minute couples aromatherapy massage and it was glorious especially after the long flight. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Tokyo
As she continued to take courses and practice, though, Thai massage began to work on her. Rosler had an eye-opening moment as she was practicing a common Thai massage stretch. Squatting on her toes behind her seated client, Rosler placed her knees into the client’s back. With her hands on the client’s shoulders, she pulled the client backward over her knees, similar to a passive cobra stretch in yoga. Rosler realized, to her surprise, that she was securely in a squat position, without knee pain.
The most widely recognized and commonly used category of massage is the Swedish massage. The Swedish massage techniques vary from light to vigorous.[62] Swedish massage uses five styles of strokes. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber or with the fibers) and vibration/shaking.[63] Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks.[64] The development of Swedish massage is often inaccurately credited to Per Henrik Ling, though the Dutch practitioner Johann Georg Mezger applied the French terms to name the basic strokes.[65] The term "Swedish" massage is actually only recognized in English and Dutch speaking countries, and in Hungary. Elsewhere the style is referred to as "classic massage".
This place is a bit sketchy. Not sure if it is legit and the "therapist" don't listen to what the customer wants. They are extremely unprofessional as well. The therapist never introduce themselves to you at the beginning but after the massage is over and when you go to the counter to pay, the strange man that runs the place gives you a card with a name, and the name isn't the same as the person who massaged you.
Massage has been shown to reduce neuromuscular excitability by measuring changes in the Hoffman's reflex (H-reflex) amplitude.[89] A decrease in peak-to-peak H-reflex amplitude suggests a decrease in motoneuron excitability.[90] Others explain, "H-reflex is considered to be the electrical analogue of the stretch reflex...and the reduction" is due to a decrease in spinal reflex excitability.[91] Field (2007) confirms that the inhibitory effects are due to deep tissue receptors and not superficial cutaneous receptors, as there was no decrease in H-reflex when looking at light fingertip pressure massage.[92] It has been noted that "the receptors activated during massage are specific to the muscle being massaged", as other muscles did not produce a decrease in H-reflex amplitude.[90]

Mary, my masseuse, began on my upper back and worked her way down to my legs and then arms (my favorite part). And surprisingly, I had a lot of knots, especially on my upper back. There were these two knots that would not budge unless I got the really deeeeep massage (but my body's too weak). Mary tried her best to press out my knots without hurting me (thumbs up to her!). She put coconut oil over my body as she worked, making it easier for area transitions. The oil felt more like a lotion combination, smoothing and rejuvenating my skin. In the end, we were offered water or tea. Siam Thai definitely takes pride in caring for their customers!
I went in for a 30 min massage before boarding my Vegas flight for vacation. Although 30 min is much too short, I still think it was the equivalent of an hour massage anywhere else. I spent my entire vacation pain free and when I asked my daughter to give me a neck massage a week later, she said she couldn't locate any superficial knots, which was a first! I highly recommend this place. I told Summer exactly where to put pressure and she obliged. She's very strong and talented.  My back was a mess, and it hurt like hell, but the good kind of pain where I felt the knots melting away. Also I was sore for a few days, but honestly I would take soreness any day over a stiff and knotted back. Fyi-The spa certificates they sell at Costco are ineffective, you end up paying the same amount. All in all amazing experience, do the 1 hour massage minimum - you won't be sorry!
You've probably seen these strange contraptions at conventions, the mall, nail parlors, and maybe even your office. Chair massages have you sitting face forward in a chair so the therapist can massage mostly your neck, shoulders, and back. The good thing is you don't have to take off your clothes or have oils slathered all over you. The bad thing is you don't get a thorough whole-body massage as you do with other methods, and, since this is often done in public places, it can be very distracting and not as relaxing. Depending on the massage therapist, however, a chair massage can really get the tension out of your upper body.
Because Thai massage is done fully clothed, some people recommend it if you feel uncomfortable with the nudity. However, Thai massage is not the best choice for first-time spa-goers. Why? First, you're going to be lying on a futon with a therapist crouched over you, pressing on your legs, just to start. They might use the weight of their body to move your body into various positions to achieve passive stretching.
I first found out about this place when a close friend got us both massages here for my birthday and I have been coming back ever since. They are so good at getting your knots out! I work and exercise a lot, so it definitely helps me out. I recommend asking for Ploy, she has a good sense of touch, strong, but also takes the time to check in with me as well!
This place can be heavenly with the right massage therapist!!! My body tends to be tight and I really need that  deep tissue, good pain that comes from very strong pressure, which is why I seek Thai body massage. Anna is absolutely amazing, excellent at deep tissue/ strong pressure massage--a true healer. Anna likes to help people feel better and her intuitive massage skills, vibe and words confirm this. Anna is very strong and called herself a "knot buster," which is wonderful and true! She found knots and sore spots and broke them. I feel so much better in my body. I've been to her a few times and left very happy and satisfied each time.
In Germany massage is regulated by the government on a federal and national level. Only someone who has completed 3,200 hours of training (theoretical and practical) can use the professional title "Masseur und Medizinischer Bademeister" or Medical Masseur and Spa Therapist. This person can prolong his training depending on the length of professional experience to a Physiotherapist (1 year to 18 months additional training). The Masseur is trained in Classical Massage, Myofascial Massage, Exercise and Movement Therapy. During the training they will study: Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Gynecology, Podiatry, Psychiatry, Psychology, Surgery, and probably most importantly Dermiatry and Orthopedics. They are trained in Electrotherapy, and Hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy includes: Kneipp, Wraps, underwater Massage, therapeutic washing, Sauna and Steambath. A small part of their training will include special forms of massage which are decided by the local college, for example: Foot reflex zone massage, Thai Massage etc. Finally a graduate is allowed to treat patients under the direction of a doctor. He is regulated by the professional body which regulates Physiotherapists. This includes the restriction on advertising and oath of confidentiality to clients.[citation needed]
They are so nice too. The girls really seem to care about your needs and wants for your back and/or muscle areas. Also, the strength of the massage you are looking for they stick to. I recommend the Swedish/deep muscle mix massage. It’s the perfect mix of stretching and deep muscle work (or as deep as you want it to be). I love it and always leave feeling relaxed and much more flexible/loose. I highly recommend this Spa.

Massage Therapy is one of the oldest and simplest techniques to optimizing health and enhancing weight loss. It is a hands-on approach to wellbeing that acts on the muscular, nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. Regular massage treatments allow the body to remove toxins more effectively and help relieve post-exercise pain and recovery time. Treatments also enhance muscle flexibility, can improve workout performance and prevent injuries. By increasing your body temperature, massage therapy can increase your Basal Metabolic Rate: the rate at which your body burns calories. Multiple studies have found that regular massage therapy is effective for relieving pain, reducing stress levels and preventing and treating both acute and chronic muscular injuries. Studies have also concluded that massage therapy is an excellent supportive treatment for healthy weight loss and regular treatments can also reduce cellulite, body circumference and help tone muscles.

The best Thai massage I ever had! I little far from My home but will drive that far for a massage. The owner is very nice and her staff are well trained, courteous and made me so relaxed. The whole experience too all the kinks out of my whole body. You should try the Herbal Ball. I will go back all the time and I highly recommend going to this place.

Excellent massage every time. Metta offers one of the best massage experiences I've had. Based on traditional Tai techniques therapists apply their body weight, on the pressure points, releasing the tension, opening up the muscles and reaching deeper tissues than in classical styles even with the stronger therapists. After the session you feel renovated for several days. Even my vision improves for an hour or so after the session.
Traditional Thai Medicine (TTM) was developed over thousands of years ago. Influenced by ancient Indian Ayurveda and Chinese practices, it includes proper nutrition, physical exercise, medicinal herbs and therapeutic massage. Traditional Thai Massage, or Nuad Phaen Boran, is based on pressure points along energy (sen) lines of the body which power physical, mental and emotional processes. Energy imbalances can disrupt the body’s harmony causing pain and disease. Our practitioners massage along energy (sen) lines and use Thai medicinal herbs to break energy blockage, stimulate circulation and restore health & well-being.

I’m on a padded floor mat wearing loose pants and a T-shirt (standard Thai-massage garb) while Pailin Winotaka uses her fingers, palms, elbows, knees, feet, indeed her whole body as ballast, slowly getting me into such familiar yoga positions as “bridge” (a backward arch) and “bow” (on my stomach, reaching back to grab her wrists rather than my own ankles for a deeper stretch). I actually feel taller when she’s done.

I absolutely loved this place. The service was amazing you get greeted with a cup of warm tea. The ambient atmosphere was absolutely astonishing and very peaceful. I actually had a really bad shoulder pain that was really painful for s number of days and so I found this place going in and expecting to come out a little better, but I felt my body and even my mood lift with how happy I was that my shoulder wasn't as bad. The massage room itself was a small bamboo made room with beautiful decorations and lighting and really nice  instrumental music in the background. I had the 90 minute oil massage and chose lavender for oil (you can choose from 5 options!). Pricing is not bad whatsoever because they give you everything that you are looking for in a massaging place.
As the name suggests, deep tissue massage applies deep pressure onto specific trouble points. It feels very much like someone is torturing you on purpose by pushing into your knotted muscle, and the massage can leave you feeling sore. It's not just more pressure all over your body, however (which would be true torture), it's very specific, methodical treatment. As Moyer Wellness explains:
Shiatsu (literally, "finger pressure") is an ancient technique from Japan. It combines gentle stretches with finger pressure to work on different pressure points. The idea is to fix imbalances in the flow of energy in your body. Although there's no concrete evidence of Shiatsu's use as a healing method, people who have had this massage still report stress and pain relief. About.com's Alternative Medicine site says:
In response to the business owner, I mentioned this on my call to her but there was no other strenuous or unusual movement of my neck during this period. I've also had to visit a chiropractor three times since coming back to the US due to the extreme pain, and he also affirmed that bad technique during the massage must be the reason (based on my alignment). Very poor experience, and I really wish Erawan would rethink their refund policy for situations like these, as this has become a very expensive massage due to the additional chiropractor expenses accrued.

In Myanmar, massage is unregulated.[100] However, it is necessary to apply for a spa license with the government to operate a massage parlour in major cities such as Yangon. Blind and visually impaired people can become masseurs, but they are not issued licenses. There are a few professional spa training schools in Myanmar but these training centers are not accredited by the government.[citation needed]
The Chinese culture has practiced the prophylactic health aspects of Chinese best massage therapies on a budget for over 5,000 years and passed down the knowledge and techniques for generations; however, many people do not experience the true benefits of ancient Chinese therapy or understand what kind of relief they should be experiencing. The earliest mentioning about the specific Tui-Na terms was dating back to around 2700 BC,
2. Generate force. When you’re putting pressure on a certain area of the body, use momentum and the full weight of your whole body to apply as much force as possible. Take advantage of gravity to hit your partner’s body with plenty of energy. Dig in by positioning your body over your arm so that your weight transfers to that specific spot. Give a hard rub to finish off the movement, and then prepare for the next area of her body.

If you've been jonesing for a change from your traditional Swedish massage, or you are particularly stiff or sore due to exercise or arthritis, Thai massage may be just what you're looking for. Unlike most massage modalities that utilize massage oils and require you to disrobe and climb under a sheet on a massage table, Thai massage is performed while you are fully clothed, usually on a padded mat on the floor.

Reflexology also known as "zone therapy", is an alternative medicine involving application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on a pseudoscientific[57] system of zones and reflex areas that purportedly reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.[58]

In regulated provinces massage therapists are known as Registered Massage Therapists, in Canada only four provinces regulate massage therapy:[95] British Columbia, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick.[96] Regulated provinces have, since 2012, established inter-jurisdiction competency standards.[97][95] Quebec is not provincially regulated. Massage therapists may obtain a certification with one of various associations operating. There is the Professional Association of Specialized Massage Therapists of Quebec, also named Mon Réseau Plus, which represents 6,300 massage therapists (including orthotherapists, naturotherapists and others), the Quebec Federation of massage therapists (FMQ), and the Association québécoise des thérapeutes naturels; however, none of these are regulated by provincial law.
Although there is a standardized system of training Thai traditional medicine in Thailand the control of medical practice is not well guided by local governmental agencies.[11,12] This has led to a situation where laypersons without degrees are practising Thai traditional massage. Although a legal framework to control of Thai massage medical centers and massage shops is available, the massage is also widely conducted in other settings without control. Also, since Thai traditional massage has ethnic and cultural connections, people tend to accept it out of belief, not knowledge. Standardization of the massage is an issue and when done, it can bring about greater acceptance of the massage system.
