Judy is my favorite masseuse. She is very good at calibrating pressure based on what you ask for. Her technique is terrific. She is also very sweet and cares about her customers. I have a few massage places walking distance from where I live but I still come here once a week. Siam's location is in mid-Market; not the best location and parking can be a challenging (best to use Uber or Lyft). But inside the environment is very serene with wood interior and the sound of water flowing. They have a large number of masseuses here at any given time- I believe ~8 so they often have availability, provided you schedule. Cost is $90 for a 1 hour swedish oil massage, and $5 discount if you pay by cash. Some of the masseuses have their own unique hours; for example Judy often starts at 2 PM on. You can also request a massage table if you prefer (which is elevated and I find allows for better breathing), versus the ground mat that is common in thai massage. Siam also has a steam room which is extra and showers. One of the reasons I like Siam and Judy in particular is she learns really well what works for your body. She will find tension in my shoulder and work on it without my saying anything. Also I found some Thai massages use significant pressure as a baseline and don't always deviate from it. Here, you can get a strong or a gentle massage depending on your preference. The front-desk is friendly and helpful. My advice is schedule a day or two in advance if you want to book for Friday or Saturday as the schedule gets full quickly. There are $40 foot massages in San Francisco and I do find some of those convenient. But one difference is in how you feel after and for that reason, I often come here.

Acupressure [from Latin acus "needle" (see acuity) + pressure (n.)[29]] is an alternative medicine technique similar in principle to acupuncture. It is based on the concept of life energy which flows through "meridians" in the body. In treatment, physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points with the aim of clearing blockages in those meridians. Pressure may be applied by fingers, palm, elbow, toes or with various devices.

In both Eastern and Western healing systems, the concept of maintaining balance or equilibrium is considered crucial to good health. 'Sen' are considered passages for energy, and correspond with blood vessels in the body. Traditional Thai healing practices suggest that when the 'Sen' become blocked, energy grows stagnant and the body loses its balance, leading to a range of ailments. Thai massage acts as an external stimulant to produce specific internal effects within the body, both freeing energy from obstruction and preserving health and harmony.

To prevent further sports pain or injury, it’s important to learn the proper techniques for lifting weights and performing certain cardio exercises. Taking frequent breaks and wearing the proper outfit and protective gear can also significantly help reduce future pain and inflammation. If you’re unsure about your form and technique, ask a personal trainer, coach, or trusted teammate for help. Find the best sports massage in Calgary at Mantra Wellness Centre.
Finally, sports massage is designed specifically for the very physically active (whether you're a professional athlete or not). It combines Swedish, Shiatsu, and other techniques to concentrate on the areas that are related to your sport. Athletes often get sports massages to prepare for peak performance, prevent injury, and also treat injury. Sports Injury Clinic, which offers several demonstration videos, says:
In South Africa, massage is regulated, but enforcement is poor. The minimum legal requirement to be able to practice as a professional massage therapist is a 2-year diploma in Therapeutic Massage and registration with The Allied Health Professions Council of SA (AHPCSA). The 2 year qualification includes 240 credits, about 80 case studies, and about 100 hours community service.

An amazing synthesis of many techniques; leaning pressure, reflexology, energy line work, stretching and yoga. To achieve all of these effects, we use palms, thumbs, feet, elbows, forearms, and knee. To give a yoga massage uniquely different than therapy in any other modality. This system creates a powerful release of stress and tension an increase in vitality and well-being.
Although there is a standardized system of training Thai traditional medicine in Thailand the control of medical practice is not well guided by local governmental agencies.[11,12] This has led to a situation where laypersons without degrees are practising Thai traditional massage. Although a legal framework to control of Thai massage medical centers and massage shops is available, the massage is also widely conducted in other settings without control. Also, since Thai traditional massage has ethnic and cultural connections, people tend to accept it out of belief, not knowledge. Standardization of the massage is an issue and when done, it can bring about greater acceptance of the massage system.
Thai #Massage is a unique type of massage therapy. This bodywork or body manipulation is usually done on the floor in a spa or parlor. It is performed with the client fully clothed and uses many yoga and massage techniques to provide deep stretching and relaxation. The therapist uses his or her body against the other person's body to stretch, relax and achieve a deep tissue massage. This demonstration is a technique called Thai Yoga Massage.
I saw their ad in the "This Week Oahu" magazine while vacationing in Waikiki. Their price for a 70 minute couples massage was a lot cheaper than what it would cost at our hotel. So I did what I always do...I looked them up on yelp to check out their reviews. Since they had good ratings, I thought why not give them a try. I'm glad we did. This was the best massage I've ever had. My husband said the same. They not only massaged but they also stretched out our achy muscles. I also had been dealing with a left shoulder pinched nerve for more than 6 months causing discomfort when I moved my shoulder a certain way. After the session, I no longer felt that discomfort. I'm not sure if this is temporary or she fixed it but I was so happy to be able to move my shoulder again without any limitations or discomfort. My husband and I both felt so great afterwards. Totally worth it. You won't be disappointed.
A Thai massage is an ancient form of healing that combines the concepts of yoga and energetic Chinese practices. About 2,500 years ago, Buddhism spread from India to Thailand. Along with this increasingly popular spiritual practice came a form of healing that had taken root in the community of Buddhists. When these new ideas reached the shores of Thailand, they mixed with the Chinese concept of the energetic body that was already being practiced.
AD 1150: Evidence of massage abortion, involving the application of pressure to the pregnant abdomen, can be found in one of the bas reliefs decorating the temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It depicts a demon performing such an abortion upon a woman who has been sent to the underworld. This is the oldest known visual representation of abortion.[12]

Very rude. Customer service is non existent. They do not listen to what your needs are. The Prices change on a whim. Massages are cut short of full time. You can hear people in the lobby while in the massage room. This is not your typical relaxing massage therapy. The massage itself was nice and firm and cupping was done properly, but it isn't worth the highest prices in the area when they end early, treat you with a lack of respect, even yelling at you and other customers, and the yelling continues as you go into the massage room as the front desk answers phones because there is no music or sound proofing or attempt to speak to people at a reasonable volume. The woman at the front desk seems so aggravated and irritated that you are even there.

However for the past couple days, they ignored my email, Yelp message and text message. I decided to call. On the phone they tried to dodge things still, which seemed questionable at best (possibly shady). However supposedly they will honor the order confirmation that I received. Again the issue is not that my brother did not receive the email. It was everything that followed.
Do you want a real professional massage? Well, this is the place. I would not go anywhere else. I have tried a few spots and they were not even close to the quality and comfort this place offers. These ladies are awesome and magical. I personally like stronger/deep tissue massage and Thai Spa Massage 2 never disappoints me. They always ask what area to focus on and work out any knots they finds. Place is very clean and comfortable. Staff is super friendly. Price of $70 may seem high for Vegas but it is worth every penny. To me this quality of massage is very hard to find and usually typical for high end resorts.

AD 1878: Dutch massage practitioner Johan Georg Mezger applies French terms to name five basic massage techniques,[13] and coins the phrase "Swedish massage system". These techniques are still known by their French names (effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (lifting and kneading the muscles), friction (firm, deep, circular rubbing movements), tapotement (brisk tapping or percussive movements), and vibration (rapidly shaking or vibrating specific muscles)).

There are many types of massage therapy, from classics like Swedish and deep tissue to more exotic styles like shiatsu. Whether you'd like to branch out a bit or have a health condition or injury, choosing a style of massage can be confusing if you're not quite sure what it involves. Here is a list of the most popular types of massage (including some that may be new to you).
For routine general health and well-being. Full body massage using pressure points with passive yoga stretching. No oil is used. At Suchada, we perform authentic traditional Thai massage the way it is practiced in Thailand. The massage is done on a mat with the client fully-clothed. In Thailand, a traditional Thai massage session last two hours. For your best experience, we recommend a 2 hour combination of a Thai massage and foot reflexology. $73 / 1 hr. $110 / 1.5 hrs. $140 / 2 hrs.
This place can be heavenly with the right massage therapist!!! My body tends to be tight and I really need that deep tissue, good pain that comes from very strong pressure, which is why I seek Thai body massage. Anna is absolutely amazing, excellent at deep tissue/ strong pressure massage--a true healer. Anna likes to help people feel better and her intuitive massage skills, vibe and words confirm this. Anna is very strong and called herself a "knot buster," which is wonderful and true! She found knots and sore spots and broke them. I feel so much better in my body. I've been to her a few times and left very happy and satisfied each time. If you don't like intense pressure and pain therefrom, Marisa is better for you. One day I got a Groupon (15 min foot, 60 min thai body massage, and steam room access) and went to book with someone Yelp said did deep tissue well, rainy, because Anna wasn't available. I booked with rainy but was given Marisa, whose massage was nice but gentler and did not meet my expectations for extreme deep pressure and good therapeutic pain from tension dissolving in knots. I later found out if you're asked if you prefer a male or female massage therapist at check in, when you already booked a particular person online, then you won't be getting who you requested, so double check who you're getting if that happens to you if you're expecting to get a specified massage therapist. After I expressed I didn't feel satisfied from that massage with Marisa because I needed more pressure, the owner / manager was extremely concerned that I was disappointed by a gentler massage and enticed me to come back to get the type of massage my body needed! I've been to well over 100 different massage places and Siam orchid Thai massage has the best customer service. No proprietor has ever been so concerned or kind after my experience was not great. I am very impressed and appreciate them. The foot massage was gentler, not like some other places where I start to sweat from the pain/stimulation of imbalanced acupressure points. Super relaxing and firm(not ticklish). The ambience is very nice, all wooden with orchids with incense or candles scent wafting about and steam coming out of a humidifier in the hallway. The room itself for massage is nice: private, spacious with relaxing zen music playing. You don't really hear any other movement or customers in the hallway. Very tranquil ambience. They pay attention to cute and chill details. You get some loose pajamas to wear. If you can, I recommend the steam room access. After the massage you bring your stuff to the back where the steam room is. Looked clean. There are locks and lockers to stow your belongings. I noticed they had flat iron and curling iron to touch up your hair.
A licensed massage therapist should ask you about your health history before the massage. Thai massage may not be safe for someone with health conditions such as disk herniation, osteoporosis, recent surgery, or cardiovascular disease. If you're considering trying Thai massage, it's a good idea to check with your healthcare provider before getting treatment to discuss whether it's appropriate for you.
Due to the great reviews, we decided to give this place a try. We were able to easily make an appointment via email with the company for the next day at the Asakusa Temple location. This location was a little tough to find, however, the pictures and description on the website did help some. Cell service wasn't great so we weren't able to look up the entrance specifics which certainly was a hassle! The place is up on the second floor behind the Mini Stop convenience store. We were immediately greeted by the staff with a jasmine scented cool wash cloth and cold ice water. After a cursory questionnaire and review of massage services, we were led to a Thai style massage mat. It is firmer and on the floor for the therapy. They have you change into a loose fit outfit before starting. We opted for the Leelavadee 150min combo. It was divine! Both the Thai massage and the essential oil deep tissue massage was great. Be forewarned that with the oil deep tissue, they are very liberal with the oil! It gets everywhere. Their massages are tailored to your particular concerns. The therapy ends with another jasmine scented wash cloth and ice cold water. We whole heartedly recommend this place. It is incredibly clean which is also a winning point. The ladies are strong and you will get a great massage! The prices are very reasonable! Don't hesitate! Make an appointment with them if you get the chance. We certainly will when we return to Tokyo.

When they lead you to the back it's super dimly lit and there are these branches coming out of the ceiling with lights on them. My massage was.... interesting. I can't really complain since I told them I wanted a deep tissue massage and I said on the form that I wanted them to go strong. But jeeeeeze. My back still kinda hurts from it. I've never had a deep tissue massage before. I just said it because work sucked that past week and I really wanted them to work the kinks out of my back, but I probably should have went with the traditional Thai massage. Either way my masseuse was a really nice guy and he kept checking in to make sure it wasn't too much pressure. Which I stupidly was like, "noooo totally fine loving the pain!" Basically, I'm weird. I need to work on that. Anyway I would definitely come back here. Read more
Part of the 90 minute massage also involved stretching certain muscles. At the end of the 90 minutes, even though I was a little bit sore from the deep tissue massage, I felt a lot better. When the massage was over, I got dressed, went to the front counter, and paid as well as left a tip. While I used the Lyft app on my phone to get ride to get back to the Strip, I was offered a loyalty card. The only thing about the loyalty card is that it was created/made for 60 minute massages and not 90 minute massages since a 90 minute massage only gets 1 stamp on the card.
Siam Thai Massage & Spa was absolutely awesome. I had massages before, but it was my first time gett...ing Thai Massage there when I was on vacation with my boyfriend. I absolutely loved it. I would go back there at anytime. It is unfortunate that I do not live in Honolulu because if I did, I would be going there every week. Nicole is the massage therapist that I had. I went in for a 30 min massage before boarding my Vegas flight for vacation. Although 30 min is much too short, I still think it was the equivalent of an hour massage anywhere else. I spent my entire vacation pain free and when I asked my daughter to give me a neck massage a week later, she said she couldn't locate any superficial knots, which was a first! I highly recommend this place. I told Summer exactly where to put pressure and she obliged. She's very strong and talented. My back was a mess, and it hurt like hell, but the good kind of pain where I felt the knots melting away. Also I was sore for a few days, but honestly I would take soreness any day over a stiff and knotted back. Fyi-The spa certificates they sell at Costco are ineffective, you end up paying the same amount. All in all amazing experience, do the 1 hour massage minimum - you won't be sorry!

Wow! It's a day after my massage and I still feel the healing and relaxing effects. Supinya did an amazing job targetting my neck and shoulders. I feel she must get a lot of people who work at desks all day and suffer from the strains of computer usage. I called around noon and they fit me in for 5:15pm with no waiting time and no rush. The manager and the massuers are all Thai ruk Thai and were very kind and pleasant. It's $60 for an hour, and you should tip. However, I am planning on going here monthly as a treat- yo- self splurge. I'm glad to live in a community where immigrants and women of color can get rewarded for their craft and skill. Krupkhunjao!

I should have written a review sooner but I have to admit -- I would like to keep the place a secret for myself and the others who regularly go there. I started with a 90 minute session every other week and quickly increased to a 90 minute session weekly. For every session but one, I have seen Yupa. She is incredible! Besides being a sweet, generous and giving human being, Yupa has excellent massage skills. She is very intuitive about what areas require attention but nevertheless always asks before starting whether there are any changes since our last session or areas I want more work. I have formal training as a massage therapist so I am quite particular about who I see. I highly recommend Yupa (just don't book my session times- LOL). I can also recommend Supinya who covered for one session when Yupa was out of town.
So if you read my previous reviews, you will see that I use to only see Summer....she answers the phone so its easy to ask her direct for an appt with her.....A month ago, Summer was gone for 2 weeks for Chinese New Year. Lily was still there so I ended up seeing her twice...and enjoyed it. When Summer got back, and to this day, I have yet to see her again for an appt. It almost seems like shes avoiding me....which might be okay, except after I had what can only be described as the WORST appt I have had...by far....given by Lily.
Massage is based on pressure points along ten key energy lines of the body, which power all physical, mental and emotional processes. If there is an energy imbalance, the body's harmony is disrupted, causing pain and disease. Massaging along these key energy lines can break energy blockage, stimulate the circulation and restore general well-being. In this form of massage, the recipient is fully-clothed, in a loose-fitting top and pants. Massage oil is not used.
Renowned for services ranging from eyelash extensions and laser hair removal to chakra balancing and chi revitalizing, Bangkok is host to an exotic and bizarre array of treatments and therapies. A quintessential component to this multi-faceted jamboree, traditional Thai massage is perhaps the most well-known and celebrated of Bangkok's pampering services. As the Japanese delicately knead flesh in accordance with Shiatsu and the Chinese offer rubs following principles of Tui-Na, Thailand presents a signature massage technique involving traditional systems of holistic beliefs.

Thai Massage, YES, please!! Found this cute little place on... yes, YELP. I enjoy very firm pressure massages and usually disappointed with therapists that don't have the strength or fluidity I enjoy in a massage. The petite gal I had was amazing. She walked on my back, stretched me in ways, I never been stretched and found knots I didn't know I had. If I'm in the city with time to kill, I will most definitely come back for more!
Lomilomi is the traditional massage of Hawaii. As an indigenous practice, it varies by island and by family. The word lomilomi also is used for massage in Samoa and East Futuna. In Samoa, it is also known as lolomi and milimili. In East Futuna, it is also called milimili, fakasolosolo, amoamo, lusilusi, kinikini, fai’ua. The Māori call it romiromi and mirimiri. In Tonga massage is fotofota, tolotolo, and amoamo. In Tahiti it is rumirumi. On Nanumea in Tuvalu, massage is known as popo, pressure application is kukumi, and heat application is tutu. Massage has also been documented in Tikopia in the Solomon Islands, in Rarotonga and in Pukapuka in Western Samoa.[46]
My husband and I come here frequently. He has sciatic, psoas pain and I have all sorts of pain (tmj, neck, back, metatarsalgia, de quervain, etc lol). He discovered this thru yelp, after trying out numerous massage services in the bay area & weve almost given up. We never considered going to a Chiro either. Thai massage is hard massage, we just couldn't get anywhere else. We tried many other massage places but we always come back here. Unlike other massage places, any staff you get here will give you the same effect, and no one is not good enough or no single staff stands out cause any of them does. There's no one massager that you need to wait for to get an appointment. We call to schedule an appt but we never request for anyone and still get the same results. Their massage is like assisted yoga, take a pause here and imagine that...I mean, dont drink anything with milk or whipped cream, if youre even slightly lactose intolerant...before the sesh...if u get what i mean. Their restroom is nice too. The trick is to not resist but to trust, give in and relax your body while they're doing their thing. We call this our "therapy". We do feel like newborns every after session, ready to go back to our desk jobs, fresh. Sometimes, after the massage, we eat at the next door Vietnamese restaurant. It feels like a mini quick vacation.
As the name suggests, deep tissue massage applies deep pressure onto specific trouble points. It feels very much like someone is torturing you on purpose by pushing into your knotted muscle, and the massage can leave you feeling sore. It's not just more pressure all over your body, however (which would be true torture), it's very specific, methodical treatment. As Moyer Wellness explains:
Massage is to work and act on the body with pressure. Massage techniques are commonly applied with hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearms, feet, or a device. The purpose of massage is generally for the treatment of body stress or pain. A person who was professionally trained to give massages was traditionally known as a masseur (male) or a masseuse (female). The title massage therapist has been recognized as a business norm.

Shiatsu massage therapy relies on the use the fingers, thumbs and palm to apply pressure to various areas of the body’s surface to help heal common ailments and conditions, and correct imbalances in the body. Pressure applied to points on the body promotes energy flow and corrects disharmonies throughout the patient's body. In addition to being a deeply relaxing experience, Shiatsu helps relieve stress, treat pain and illness, and contributes to a patient's overall health and wellbeing.

In Thailand, Thai massage is officially listed as one of the branches of traditional Thai medicine, recognized and regulated by the government. It is considered to be a medical discipline in its own right and is used for the treatment of a wide variety of ailments and conditions. Massage schools, centers, therapists, and practitioners are increasingly regulated by the Ministries of Education and Public Health in Thailand.[106][107]
During hot stone massage, your body is not only weighted down with hot, smooth stones, but the masseuse also uses the stones to massage your body. It's like being caressed by the smoothest (rollerball-like) hands, but also being scorched by them for a "Yeeooowwww!….Ahhhhh" effect. A hot stone massage is mostly relaxing, but it also is more invigorating than your run-of-the-mill massage, thanks to the almost-too-much heat bringing you back to focus on the moment instead of letting you drift off. The heat helps release the tension in your back and shoulders, mostly, so those muscles can be worked on more effectively.
Deep tissue and trigger point massages are very similar. The difference is that deep tissue massage uses various traditional massage techniques to work the tissue, whereas trigger point massage is literally looking to manipulate or press on that one point that relieves tension in an entire area (perhaps not even nearby). For both, consider this contraption, which is an invaluable tool for torturing soothing sore muscles all over your body. This is a great guide on doing trigger point therapy for yourself.
Unlike Western massage styles, the Thai version focuses on circulation and pressure points, promoting internal health as well as muscular flexibility. Treatment often begins with the feet and gradually moves upwards towards the head. The body is gently arranged into four positions (face-down, face-up, side, and sitting position), which enables the masseur to perform a variety of exercises that would be otherwise unworkable.

Mary, my masseuse, began on my upper back and worked her way down to my legs and then arms (my favorite part). And surprisingly, I had a lot of knots, especially on my upper back. There were these two knots that would not budge unless I got the really deeeeep massage (but my body's too weak). Mary tried her best to press out my knots without hurting me (thumbs up to her!). She put coconut oil over my body as she worked, making it easier for area transitions. The oil felt more like a lotion combination, smoothing and rejuvenating my skin. In the end, we were offered water or tea. Siam Thai definitely takes pride in caring for their customers!

Sometimes confused with pressure point massage,[10] this involves deactivating trigger points that may cause local pain or refer pain and other sensations, such as headaches, in other parts of the body. Manual pressure, vibration, injection, or other treatment is applied to these points to relieve myofascial pain. Trigger points were first discovered and mapped by Janet G. Travell (President Kennedy's physician) and David Simons. Trigger points have been photomicrographed and measured electrically[70] and in 2007 a paper was presented showing images of Trigger Points using MRI.[71] These points relate to dysfunction in the myoneural junction, also called neuromuscular junction (NMJ), in muscle, and therefore this technique is different from reflexology, acupressure and pressure point massage.
