You definitely need to make an appointment. Thai massages are amazing, but if you've never had one be aware they put a lot of pressure on your back. They step on it, use elbows, anything they can to get to the problem. Yes, you will be sore the next day, and maybe the day after. But I assure you I only need to do this once a month as a necessary "mom massage." Being of Thai descent I can tell you they do an amazing job and worth every penny.
2. Generate force. When you’re putting pressure on a certain area of the body, use momentum and the full weight of your whole body to apply as much force as possible. Take advantage of gravity to hit your partner’s body with plenty of energy. Dig in by positioning your body over your arm so that your weight transfers to that specific spot. Give a hard rub to finish off the movement, and then prepare for the next area of her body.
Came here needing a good massage after receiving a very weak massage while on vacation. Had a 60 min Thai massage with a male masseuse. If you like hard pressure, you can't go wrong with this massage. My masseuse really used firm pressure to target the knots in my shoulders. After an hour of this, my whole body felt a lot better. I'll definitely be coming back on a regular basis for these awesome massages
At our advanced day spa facility, we perform various styles of therapeutic massage, including traditional Thai, Lomi Lomi, shiatsu, Swedish, deep tissue, and stone massage techniques. These different modalities have been developed over the ages, and by different cultures, to address the ills that routinely affect the human body, but all are practiced with the ultimate aim of healing ourselves on a physical, psychological, and even spiritual level. Each unique style of massage has its distinct benefits and produces targeted effects to help treat specific complaints and conditions. Some of the most sought-after benefits of massage therapy are relief from tension headaches and musculoskeletal or neurological pain, as well as reduced heart rate, blood pressure, stress levels, anxiety, and depression...
The Chinese culture has practiced the prophylactic health aspects of Chinese best massage therapies on a budget for over 5,000 years and passed down the knowledge and techniques for generations; however, many people do not experience the true benefits of ancient Chinese therapy or understand what kind of relief they should be experiencing. The earliest mentioning about the specific Tui-Na terms was dating back to around 2700 BC,
In Mexico massage therapists, called "sobadores", combine massage using oil or lotion with a form of acupuncture and faith. Sobadores are used to relieve digestive system problems as well as knee and back pain. Many of these therapists work out of the back of a truck, with just a curtain for privacy. By learning additional holistic healer's skills in addition to massage, the practitioner may become a curandero.
A considerable amount of privacy is allotted in most places offering Thai massage, making it an ideal solution for the individual who isn't quite up for the challenge of yoga. Let's face it, not everyone is equipped with the physique or poise necessary to squeeze into spandex and curl into the Downward Facing Dog position. Yoga, for the most part, is available in group sessions. Though spandex is not a requirement, it's not uncommon to practice among a variety of other adults, all of whom happen to be more flexible than you. For a more intimate experience, Thai massage manages to produce similar somatic results without the awkwardness of being observed by seemingly elastic peers.
The use of seven essential oils placed along the spine and massaged into the body with featherlight movements. Raindrop has helped bring relief to chronic pain sufferers. It’s called “Raindrop” therapy due to the feeling of essential oils gently dripping along your back. The specific blend of essential oils is intended to relax sore or achy muscles, reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation and immune functions, and cleanse the body’s systems. A specific blend of oils is utilized in raindrop therapy, so speak to your therapist about any sensitivities you might have.
I would say it's a fair estimate that I have gotten 100 plus massages in my lifetime. I don't recall a time getting massage this amazing. Admittedly, this is my first Thai massage ever so I don't know if this is just how it is. However, I can say and that it was easily in my top 3 best massages ever. I'm already excited to book my next appointment for this place. The service was so amazing that I actually signed up for a Yelp account just so I could leave this feedback. If you are looking for the best professional massage that you've ever had, book an appointment here.
This was just so weird. I got there and they were able to see me immediately. I let them know I am 9 months pregnant and they said no problem, they do prenatal massage. I get in and the therapist was HORRIBLE! She spent 40+ minutes rubbing the middle of my back. That's it. I told her my neck and shoulders and especially my feet hurt and she wouldn't move from the same spot. She finally said we were done and I was shocked! She never rubbed my hands, lower back, neck, or my feet! I mean come on, who doesn't rub a pregnant persons feet? I even checked at the end to see if my feet were gross or something but no, took a shower right before I got there. It was just so strange, I ended up coming home in tears and rubbing myself which would have cost less than the $75 I paid them for absolutely nothing.
Prior to gaining momentum in the U.S. as a popular modality, Thai massage schools in Thailand taught 60-hour certification courses, and teacher training was available for an additional 60 to 70 hours. Now, certification can be had around the world from the traditional 60 hours up to 500 hours, leaving massage therapists to make their own choices as to what is sufficient training.
You've probably seen these strange contraptions at conventions, the mall, nail parlors, and maybe even your office. Chair massages have you sitting face forward in a chair so the therapist can massage mostly your neck, shoulders, and back. The good thing is you don't have to take off your clothes or have oils slathered all over you. The bad thing is you don't get a thorough whole-body massage as you do with other methods, and, since this is often done in public places, it can be very distracting and not as relaxing. Depending on the massage therapist, however, a chair massage can really get the tension out of your upper body.
Traditional Thai massage rarely uses oils or lotions, and the recipient remains clothed during a treatment. There is constant body contact between the practitioner and client, but rather than rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked in order to clear energy blockages and relieve tension. The practitioner uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, knees and feet to create a dance of movement on the body of the recipient. In this process, joints are opened, muscles and tendons are stretched, internal organs are toned, and energy is balanced. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and physical and mental well being.
Thai massage has been practiced in America since the 1990s when Westerners began practicing it. Thai massage is more commonly found than it used to be at American spas, but you can't find it everywhere for two reasons. First, the spa needs a room with a large, padded mat in order to offer Thai massage. It's easiest if the room is always set up for Thai massage, and yet it is more of a specialty request. It just makes more economic sense to have the room set up with a table for a Swedish massage.
Is a technique that focuses in the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic pain patterns of tension in the body. Through slow strokes and deep finger or elbow pressure on the contracted areas either following or going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia. It also helps break up and eliminate scar tissue that builds up in the body and reduce inflammation related pain caused by tendonitis and arthritis.
In a poll of 25–35-year-olds, 79% said they would like their health insurance plan to cover massage. In 2006 Duke University Health System opened up a center to integrate medical disciplines with CAM disciplines such as massage therapy and acupuncture. There were 15,500 spas in the United States in 2007, with about two-thirds of the visitors being women.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based massage therapist Beth Brown also finds that practicing Thai massage can help her deal with her own pain and stress. “If I am holding stress—a headache, for example, or tightness in my shoulder—doing a Thai massage often takes my pain away,” she says. Often, too, after a long day of massage, giving a Thai massage at the end of the day will rejuvenate her, as a yoga or meditation class might.
The difference between the two exercises is that during a massage, it's the responsibility of the massage therapist to carry out the work, while the individual on the receiving end reaps the benefits. Increased flexibility, oxygenation of the blood, postural alignment, and elongated muscles are all prospective enhancements resulting from a session of Thai massage. Fluidly, one's body is positioned by another in a series of poses aiming to promote health and relaxation. Yoga requires poses to be achieved through the efforts of a single person, and the notion of contorting oneself while concurrently meditating is no simple task. Thai massage is, in fact, yoga for those of us who are inherently unmotivated.
I went for a hot stone massage, she rubbed hot stones on my back at one point briefly but they weren...’t laid on my back like a usual hot stone massage. The massage didn’t flow and I question whether she was trained professionally. I felt the massage was rushed at the end. I also question why I wasn’t asked to fill out any paperwork or if I had any injuries or conditions. I won’t be coming back. See More

The benefits of receiving a Thai massage are vague, at best. While it is easy to say that Thai massages are good for you in the short-term, any scientific evidence backing this information is certainly lacking. That being said, there are some obvious benefits. For one, it feels incredible. It relieves stress and tension in joints and muscles. It is also very good for those of you feeling stiff, especially during travel, as you are stretched throughout the massage.

Proprioceptive studies are much more abundant than massage and proprioception combined, yet researchers are still trying to pinpoint the exact mechanisms and pathways involved to get a fuller understanding. Proprioception may be very helpful in rehabilitation, though this is a fairly unknown characteristic of proprioception, and "current exercises aimed at 'improving proprioception' have not been demonstrated to achieve that goal". Up until this point, very little has been studied looking into the effects of massage on proprioception. Some researchers believe "documenting what happens under the skin, bioelectrically and biochemically, will be enabled by newer, non-invasive technology such as functional magnetic resonance imaging and continuous plasma sampling".
They are so nice too. The girls really seem to care about your needs and wants for your back and/or muscle areas. Also, the strength of the massage you are looking for they stick to. I recommend the Swedish/deep muscle mix massage. It’s the perfect mix of stretching and deep muscle work (or as deep as you want it to be). I love it and always leave feeling relaxed and much more flexible/loose. I highly recommend this Spa.
My husband and I come here frequently. He has sciatic, psoas pain and I have all sorts of pain (tmj, neck, back, metatarsalgia, de quervain, etc lol). He discovered this thru yelp, after trying out numerous massage services in the bay area & weve almost given up. We never considered going to a Chiro either. Thai massage is hard massage, we just couldn't get anywhere else. We tried many other massage places but we always come back here. Unlike other massage places, any staff you get here will give you the same effect, and no one is not good enough or no single staff stands out cause any of them does. There's no one massager that you need to wait for to get an appointment. We call to schedule an appt but we never request for anyone and still get the same results. Their massage is like assisted yoga, take a pause here and imagine that...I mean, dont drink anything with milk or whipped cream, if youre even slightly lactose intolerant...before the sesh...if u get what i mean. Their restroom is nice too. The trick is to not resist but to trust, give in and relax your body while they're doing their thing. We call this our "therapy". We do feel like newborns every after session, ready to go back to our desk jobs, fresh. Sometimes, after the massage, we eat at the next door Vietnamese restaurant. It feels like a mini quick vacation.
And if you wonder how Thai massage might fit into your existing practice, Spivack has some encouraging words. “I would like to remind those who are considering Thai massage that it is very easy to incorporate into a conventional massage practice,” he explains. “It doesn’t have to replace your practice. It can enhance it. You can still do table massage—and all the techniques you’ve already learned —and incorporate some Thai massage easily without having to shelve all your other knowledge. It is very adaptable."
In response to the business owner, I mentioned this on my call to her but there was no other strenuous or unusual movement of my neck during this period. I've also had to visit a chiropractor three times since coming back to the US due to the extreme pain, and he also affirmed that bad technique during the massage must be the reason (based on my alignment). Very poor experience, and I really wish Erawan would rethink their refund policy for situations like these, as this has become a very expensive massage due to the additional chiropractor expenses accrued.

Pleasantly surprised once I stepped inside! Immediately I was greeted, served hot tea (which is delicious - I had a few cups during my time!) and led back to the steam room within minutes. The bathroom area is older style, however seems clean and equipped with the basics (including lockers w provided keys). The clothing you're given to wear is definitely not something I would ever pick out for myself, but it suited the purpose and I figured I wouldn't run into anyone important. After I sweated it out in the steam room, I enjoyed a Thai/foot massage with Mary. I've never had a Thai massage before and it's definitely a different experience. I wouldn't say it's as relaxing as a Swedish massage but certainly helps loosen up tight muscles. In the form I filled out at check in, I specified strong pressure and wasn't disappointed! Would go again. Read more
Deep Tissue is a very specific massage treatment in which the therapist uses knuckles and elbow's to "strip out" muscle tissue as far down to the bone as possible. Sound invasive? It is! It is definitely not for everyone. However there are millions of people out there that would never have their treatment any other way. This modality can be helpful to the following people: athletes who are considerably harder on their bodies than the average person, people who are undergoing physical therapy to aid in the breakdown process of scar tissue, (AFTER PROPER HEALING FROM THE INJURY HAS OCCURED), or anyone who has very dense tissue and thus responds better to the work.

Well the only ones to leave a positive review here has to be family and friends. After I told my 1sf therapist as a walk in that I had lots of lower back and hip pain she started treament by after 5 min she had a more important client walk in so I was pushed off to someone who never heard why I was there. After 10-15 min of a kitty cat pawing treatment I was suppose to be happpy. I asked to pay more For a deep tissue treatment but she said she didn't understand the English I was speaking. Of chourse 2 min after that she knew "do u pay cash" and "how much tip" "how much tip?' Stay away and get a professional
The standard type of massage offered in most clinics, gyms, spas, and wellness centers, Swedish massage is virtually synonymous with massage therapy. Swedish massage is based on the Western concepts of anatomy and physiology, compared to the energy-centric style more common in Asian forms of massage. Using lotion or oil, massage therapists typically begin with broad general strokes and then transition to specific strokes to address problem areas.
Reflexology also known as "zone therapy", is an alternative medicine involving application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on a pseudoscientific system of zones and reflex areas that purportedly reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.
I've been here 3 times, as a former professional massage therapist, I have to say that these people do things far beyond what I was capable of and it's AMAZING! I've recommended it to all of my friends. My massage therapist PAULA have amazing skill and technique and are perfect for anyone like me who's worried about a lack of pressure. Nelly is wonderful if you just want a nice relaxing massage after a hard day. My preference is for PAULA who work very deep into tissue and do a lot of full body stretches (it's Thai massage after all!)
As she continued to take courses and practice, though, Thai massage began to work on her. Rosler had an eye-opening moment as she was practicing a common Thai massage stretch. Squatting on her toes behind her seated client, Rosler placed her knees into the client’s back. With her hands on the client’s shoulders, she pulled the client backward over her knees, similar to a passive cobra stretch in yoga. Rosler realized, to her surprise, that she was securely in a squat position, without knee pain.

I am new to LA and this was my first therapeutic massage here in town. I have gone for several massages back in my home state of Pennsylvania but Aqua Thai Spa was by far the best experience I have had yet. I will certainly return as a customer, NAPA was magnificent, she listened to what I mentioned about the areas on my back that were giving me problems and she made it her focus which in my past experience they usually don’t.
As the name suggests, deep tissue massage applies deep pressure onto specific trouble points. It feels very much like someone is torturing you on purpose by pushing into your knotted muscle, and the massage can leave you feeling sore. It's not just more pressure all over your body, however (which would be true torture), it's very specific, methodical treatment. As Moyer Wellness explains:
During the massage, my masseuse was pretty professional, she used the right amount of pressure and always asked me If I ok. She recommended walking on my body gently, she has a lot of experience. After my massage my body felt very soft and relaxed. I asked her name which Tanya, I read a lot of good reviews from Tanya. I finally know why Tanya so popular unite I tried her massage!!
After I expressed I didn't feel satisfied from that massage with Marisa because I needed more pressure, the owner / manager was extremely concerned that I was disappointed by a gentler massage and enticed me to come back to get the type of massage my body needed! I've been to well over 100 different massage places and Siam orchid Thai massage has the best customer service. No proprietor has ever been so concerned or kind after my experience was not great. I am very impressed and appreciate them.
I had a great experience here. I have some problems with shin splints and tight muscles in my legs from playing soccer. I went here specifically because they offered a deep tissue massage which would help with that. I got there without an appointment and I was able to get an appoint in the next 10 minutes which was awesome. I was a little worried that the girls would not be able to massage my muscles strong enough, but boy was I wrong! They definitely know what they’re doing and massage just hard enough to get all the knots out, but not too hard to make it painful. The girl who massaged me also had some kind of intuition for exactly where the knots were and was able to target them really well. I think I will go here more often to help out my leg muscles.
