I highly recommend Chinese Traditional Massage. I booked a one hour Tui-Na Massage - Level II. My body has been rather tight with knots and the massage that I got today really broke up those knots and the added stretching and cupping helped with the tightness I have been experiencing. I felt much more relaxed after my session. I look forward to my next session there.
You definitely need to make an appointment. Thai massages are amazing, but if you've never had one be aware they put a lot of pressure on your back. They step on it, use elbows, anything they can to get to the problem. Yes, you will be sore the next day, and maybe the day after. But I assure you I only need to do this once a month as a necessary "mom massage." Being of Thai descent I can tell you they do an amazing job and worth every penny.

In response to the business owner, I mentioned this on my call to her but there was no other strenuous or unusual movement of my neck during this period. I've also had to visit a chiropractor three times since coming back to the US due to the extreme pain, and he also affirmed that bad technique during the massage must be the reason (based on my alignment). Very poor experience, and I really wish Erawan would rethink their refund policy for situations like these, as this has become a very expensive massage due to the additional chiropractor expenses accrued.
I am pretty sure that was one of the best massages I have ever had. I asked for medium pressure and she was right on point. She checked in with me at the start of the session, because I had indicated I wanted attention placed on my back on the entry form. I confirmed that's where I would like her to spend most of her time and she did. That was really cool. I know it sounds simple, but every time I fill out those forms they never ask me to confirm and I end up getting a total body massage with attention never placed in one single area as I had hoped.
I found this place a few months ago and it has since become a favorite spa to visit. I have lived/worked in China many years and know exactly what high level, well-trained, quality Chinese bodywork is. I've had every style performed many, many times. I usually visit Lily. We are now good friends, can practice Chines/English together during our sessions and know each other well. From the very first time I came to Chinese Traditional Massage, Lily was very friendly, professional, found out about all my past surgeries and did a great appointment. I visit about once a week. I always look forward to seeing Lily and having another great visit with her. Hey laoban...Xia Yun anmo feichong, feichong hao he ta shi hen li mao. Wo juede Xia Yun hen mei li...ke yi le? A "vacation" in Tokyo certainly requires a lot of walking. After logging 10+ miles a few days in a row, our bodies were in need of a little R&R. There are certainly a lot of options for massages in Japan, but Erawan definitely appeals to tourists. It was SO easy to request an appointment via Yelp. They got back to me within a hour and we had appointments setup later that day. We went with a 90 minute Thai couples massage with oil of which you get to pick the scent for. We chose lavender which probably is the reason I drifted off into sleep at one point. You lay on the ground rather than a bed and the masseuse really gets to work! At the end, they also crack your back which was scary but felt great. It cost about $108 plus tip, which is pretty comparable to a massage here. We got a slight discount because it was a "couples" massage. Was it worth it? Yes! It was just what our bodies needed mid-vacay and I would definitely return.
The Chinese culture has practiced the prophylactic health aspects of Chinese best massage therapies on a budget for over 5,000 years and passed down the knowledge and techniques for generations; however, many people do not experience the true benefits of ancient Chinese therapy or understand what kind of relief they should be experiencing. The earliest mentioning about the specific Tui-Na terms was dating back to around 2700 BC,

I've been looking for a good traditional Thai massage place in Oakland and haven't found one yet. I was randomly in Albany getting car repair and was surprised first at the huge number of massage places in 3 blocks. I checked the reviews on Yelp and folks were right this place is 100% legit. I've had a good number of Thai massages and this place was great and reasonable price. I'll for sure be back. And the idea of oil changes have gone from huge inconvenience to oh great the Thai massage is right next door.
I am very happy that this massage place took me in for a 10:30-11:40pm appointment last minute. This place is very accommodating. I also called only 20 mins before coming down to do a walk-in. I worked 9-14 hours day continuously so I was in pain in my neck, back, calves and feet. Claudia gives a medium to hard massage. So see her if you need relief from tension. Plus she is nice, patience, and funny. Thumbs up!!
In a poll of 25–35-year-olds, 79% said they would like their health insurance plan to cover massage. In 2006 Duke University Health System opened up a center to integrate medical disciplines with CAM disciplines such as massage therapy and acupuncture. There were 15,500 spas in the United States in 2007, with about two-thirds of the visitors being women.
$70 for an hour is reasonable but their massage is MUCH better than any other traditional place that you have visited. The only downfall is that this place isn't one of the posh, tranquility type places like Asha (get extra pampered, zero sound/noises in entire facility, heated beds etc) - unfortunately I could clearly hear through the walls of conversations taking place but they didn't last long so it didn't really bother me.
Thai massage works best when it’s tailored to the client. “I have had clients from ages 15 to 80,” Spivack says. “Each of their treatments will look very different, specific to their needs.” He has worked with those with whiplash and knee replacements, as well as those who are obese or frail. “For those individuals, I modify a lot of the poses and stretches, and always work with their comfort range,” he adds.
Traditional Thai massage rarely uses oils or lotions, and the recipient remains clothed during a treatment. There is constant body contact between the practitioner and client, but rather than rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked in order to clear energy blockages and relieve tension. The practitioner uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, knees and feet to create a dance of movement on the body of the recipient. In this process, joints are opened, muscles and tendons are stretched, internal organs are toned, and energy is balanced. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and physical and mental well being.
The ambience is very nice, all wooden with orchids with incense or candles scent wafting about and steam coming out of a humidifier in the hallway. The room itself for massage is nice: private, spacious with relaxing zen music playing. You don't really hear any other movement or customers in the hallway. Very tranquil ambience. They pay attention to cute and chill details.
Thai Massage, YES, please!! Found this cute little place on... yes, YELP. I enjoy very firm pressure massages and usually disappointed with therapists that don't have the strength or fluidity I enjoy in a massage. The petite gal I had was amazing. She walked on my back, stretched me in ways, I never been stretched and found knots I didn't know I had. If I'm in the city with time to kill, I will most definitely come back for more!

My husband and I come here frequently. He has sciatic, psoas pain and I have all sorts of pain (tmj, neck, back, metatarsalgia, de quervain, etc lol). He discovered this thru yelp, after trying out numerous massage services in the bay area & weve almost given up. We never considered going to a Chiro either. Thai massage is hard massage, we just couldn't get anywhere else. We tried many other massage places but we always come back here. Unlike other massage places, any staff you get here will give you the same effect, and no one is not good enough or no single staff stands out cause any of them does. There's no one massager that you need to wait for to get an appointment. We call to schedule an appt but we never request for anyone and still get the same results. Their massage is like assisted yoga, take a pause here and imagine that...I mean, dont drink anything with milk or whipped cream, if youre even slightly lactose intolerant...before the sesh...if u get what i mean. Their restroom is nice too. The trick is to not resist but to trust, give in and relax your body while they're doing their thing. We call this our "therapy". We do feel like newborns every after session, ready to go back to our desk jobs, fresh. Sometimes, after the massage, we eat at the next door Vietnamese restaurant. It feels like a mini quick vacation.
I went in for a 30 min massage before boarding my Vegas flight for vacation. Although 30 min is much too short, I still think it was the equivalent of an hour massage anywhere else. I spent my entire vacation pain free and when I asked my daughter to give me a neck massage a week later, she said she couldn't locate any superficial knots, which was a first! I highly recommend this place. I told Summer exactly where to put pressure and she obliged. She's very strong and talented. My back was a mess, and it hurt like hell, but the good kind of pain where I felt the knots melting away. Also I was sore for a few days, but honestly I would take soreness any day over a stiff and knotted back. Fyi-The spa certificates they sell at Costco are ineffective, you end up paying the same amount. All in all amazing experience, do the 1 hour massage minimum - you won't be sorry!
Proprioceptive studies are much more abundant than massage and proprioception combined, yet researchers are still trying to pinpoint the exact mechanisms and pathways involved to get a fuller understanding. Proprioception may be very helpful in rehabilitation, though this is a fairly unknown characteristic of proprioception, and "current exercises aimed at 'improving proprioception' have not been demonstrated to achieve that goal". Up until this point, very little has been studied looking into the effects of massage on proprioception. Some researchers believe "documenting what happens under the skin, bioelectrically and biochemically, will be enabled by newer, non-invasive technology such as functional magnetic resonance imaging and continuous plasma sampling".
