I've been looking for a good traditional Thai massage place in Oakland and haven't found one yet. I was randomly in Albany getting car repair and was surprised first at the huge number of massage places in 3 blocks. I checked the reviews on Yelp and folks were right this place is 100% legit. I've had a good number of Thai massages and this place was great and reasonable price. I'll for sure be back. And the idea of oil changes have gone from huge inconvenience to oh great the Thai massage is right next door.

I just said it because work sucked that past week and I really wanted them to work the kinks out of my back, but I probably should have went with the traditional Thai massage. I have been going to Metta Traditional Thai Massage for the past six months. I should have written a… I have been going to Metta Traditional Thai Massage for the past six months. I should have written a review sooner but I have to admit -- I would like to keep the place a secret for myself and the others who regularly go there. I started with a 90 minute session every other week and quickly increased to a 90 minute session weekly. For every session but one, I have seen Yupa. She is incredible! Besides being a sweet, generous and giving human being, Yupa has excellent massage skills. She is very intuitive about what areas require attention but nevertheless always asks before starting whether there are any changes since our last session or areas I want more work. I have formal training as a massage therapist so I am quite particular about who I see. I highly recommend Yupa (just don't book my session times- LOL). I can also recommend Supinya who covered for one session when Yupa was out of town.
I really wish I could give this place 5 stars. I really do. I came in with high expectations when I booked a reservation for both of us on a Monday after work. This is a beautiful space, and it feels like we've been transported to a calm, zen space that you would have never expected in the busy and dingy streets of the Civic Center area of San Francisco.

There were these two knots that would not budge unless I got the really deeeeep massage (but my body's too weak). Mary tried her best to press out my knots without hurting me (thumbs up to her!). She put coconut oil over my body as she worked, making it easier for area transitions. The oil felt more like a lotion combination, smoothing and rejuvenating my skin. In the end, we were offered water or tea. Siam Thai definitely takes pride in caring for their customers!

Due to the great reviews, we decided to give this place a try. We were able to easily make an appointment via email with the company for the next day at the Asakusa Temple location. This location was a little tough to find, however, the pictures and description on the website did help some. Cell service wasn't great so we weren't able to look up the entrance specifics which certainly was a hassle! The place is up on the second floor behind the Mini Stop convenience store. We were immediately greeted by the staff with a jasmine scented cool wash cloth and cold ice water. After a cursory questionnaire and review of massage services, we were led to a Thai style massage mat. It is firmer and on the floor for the therapy. They have you change into a loose fit outfit before starting. We opted for the Leelavadee 150min combo. It was divine! Both the Thai massage and the essential oil deep tissue massage was great. Be forewarned that with the oil deep tissue, they are very liberal with the oil! It gets everywhere. Their massages are tailored to your particular concerns. The therapy ends with another jasmine scented wash cloth and ice cold water. We whole heartedly recommend this place. It is incredibly clean which is also a winning point. The ladies are strong and you will get a great massage! The prices are very reasonable! Don't hesitate! Make an appointment with them if you get the chance. We certainly will when we return to Tokyo.

Hours later I'm ready for my relaxing massage and a few minutes in I realize thai massages are NOT my usual relaxing massage. The masseuse is literally kneeling on my back getting every single knot (and I have a lot of them!) out while I say "ouch" about every 3 seconds. She continues to tell me "relax" throughout the massage and I continue to respond with "ouch."
