Thai massage isn’t nicknamed “yoga for lazy people” for nothing. Clients such as Pete who are into performance don’t necessarily take adequate time for stretching compared to how hard they push their bodies. Roger still isn’t totally comfortable with taking his clothes off and he likes that some of the Thai stretches he can do at home in between treatments.

In the recent report on Thai traditional massage, Yoopat et al. reported their observation on three varieties of Thai traditional massage and concluded that “some forearm fatigue was decreased significantly among the three massage techniques.” In fact, Thai traditional massage is a widely used massage technique in Thailand and is presently accepted by the Thai Ministry of Public Health. The technique can be described to be a kind of acupressure massage. Kumnerddee noted that Thai traditional massage was effective in bringing about muscle relaxation but that the technique was inferior to the worldwide well-known Chinese acupuncture.
Tui Na massage is one of the most popular forms of Chinese medical massages in the modern day world. It involves deep massage techniques that are applied over the whole body in many repetitions, especially the back. Tui Na medical massages are excellent for treating ailments such as chronic pains, musculoskeletal problems, sprains and strains, arthritis, problems of the digestive system, liver and the spleen.
According to research done by the American Massage Therapy Association, as of 2012 in the United States there are between 280,000 and 320,000 massage therapists and massage school students. As of 2011, there were more than 300 accredited massage schools and programs in the United States. Most states have licensing requirements that must be met before a practitioner can use the title "massage therapist", and some states and municipalities require a license to practice any form of massage. If a state does not have any massage laws then a practitioner need not apply for a license with the state. However, the practitioner will need to check whether any local or county laws cover massage therapy. Training programs in the US are typically 500–1000 hours in length, and can award a certificate, diploma, or degree depending on the particular school. There are around 1,300 programs training massage therapists in the country and study will often include anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, massage techniques, first aid and CPR, business, ethical and legal issues, and hands on practice along with continuing education requirements if regulated. The Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) is one of the organizations that works with massage schools in the U.S. and currently (Aug 2012) there are approximately 300 schools that are accredited through this agency.
Middle-Ages: Medical knowledge, including that of massage, made its way from Rome to Persia in the Middle Ages. Many of Galen's manuscripts, for instance, were collected and translated by Hunayn ibn Ishaq in the 9th century. Later in the 11th century copies were translated back into Latin, and again in the 15th and 16th centuries, when they helped enlighten European scholars as to the achievements of the Ancient Greeks. This renewal of the Galenic tradition during the Renaissance played a very important part in the rise of modern science.

Thai massage originated in India and is based on ayurveda( incorporates yoga, meditation and herbal remedies) and yoga. Nuad Boran (known in various forms as Thai massage, Thai Yoga Massage, and other terms) began to evolve in Thailand over 1,000 years ago. Based on healing principles similar to those of other Eastern healing arts, the Thai system focuses on circulation of vital energy in major pathways called sen. Energy lines are manipulated, and important pressure points along these pathways are stimulated to help break down blockages, stimulate energy flow and restore balance and harmony.

Thai massage therapy requires extensive training, and the preeminent place for it is Wat Po in Bangkok. The school offers three certification levels, with the third one alone requiring 800 hours. (Graduates are issued a certificate from the Thailand Ministry of Public Health.) There are numerous programs around the world with solid training as well, but many die-hard therapists make the pilgrimage to Thailand to acquire at least some authentic knowledge base.
In fact, the history of Thai massage is more complex than this legend of a single founder would suggest. Thai massage, like Thai traditional medicine (TTM) more generally, is a combination of influences from Indian, Chinese, Southeast Asian cultural spheres, and traditions of medicine, and the art as it is practiced today is likely to be the product of a 19th-century synthesis of various healing traditions from all over the kingdom. Even today, there is considerable variation from region to region across Thailand, and no single routine or theoretical framework that is universally accepted among healers.
This is the best massage i have ever had. It was the first Thai massage i have had and i was greatly surprised on all the techniques used. My hole body felt relaxed after she stretched my body, used hot stones, massaged , and walked on my back. The whole staff was professional and very friendly. I would highly recommend getting a massage from this business.

This is an awesome massage place. After a long road trip ended up in this massage center. First off all the staff are really friendly and super look and very knowledgeable about therapy. The lemon grass tea is awesome at the end. The massage is really a great relief on overall and very nice technique in handling nerves. Had different levels of pressure with different techniques in Thai massage. Over all it's a great massage and great experience in a wonderful panama trip.
I'd been in Tokyo, Japan for four days and have done extensive walking. I had been feeling pain to my feet and hip. I finally decided to Yelp a place and saw good reviews. I made my appointment through Yelp. Make sure you give them the day, time, name and type of service on your first communication. It's helpful...I finally came here and felt so much more flexible and the pain on my hip is gone. My feet may require rest to not feel anything but certainly feel so much better. The staff is wonderful and are very careful with the stretches they do. I highly recommend to make the trip here. Is worth it!
Mary was great. She gives awesome pressure and is very knowledgeable. I like a lot of pressure and she exceeded my expectations. Also had yunee(don't know the spelling but pronounced U-NEE). She was also great, especially if you like a more soothing touch. Almost Swedish but with good pressure. My fiancé had katie and he loved his massage with her. He said she was able to pop almost every joint in his body and felt so much relief after. Highly recommend requesting any of these 3 ladies. Thanks for the amazing massages!!!
You've probably seen these strange contraptions at conventions, the mall, nail parlors, and maybe even your office. Chair massages have you sitting face forward in a chair so the therapist can massage mostly your neck, shoulders, and back. The good thing is you don't have to take off your clothes or have oils slathered all over you. The bad thing is you don't get a thorough whole-body massage as you do with other methods, and, since this is often done in public places, it can be very distracting and not as relaxing. Depending on the massage therapist, however, a chair massage can really get the tension out of your upper body.
My husband and I come here frequently. He has sciatic, psoas pain and I have all sorts of pain (tmj, neck, back, metatarsalgia, de quervain, etc lol). He discovered this thru yelp, after trying out numerous massage services in the bay area & weve almost given up. We never considered going to a Chiro either. Thai massage is hard massage, we just couldn't get anywhere else. We tried many other massage places but we always come back here. Unlike other massage places, any staff you get here will give you the same effect, and no one is not good enough or no single staff stands out cause any of them does. There's no one massager that you need to wait for to get an appointment. We call to schedule an appt but we never request for anyone and still get the same results. Their massage is like assisted yoga, take a pause here and imagine that...I mean, dont drink anything with milk or whipped cream, if youre even slightly lactose intolerant...before the sesh...if u get what i mean. Their restroom is nice too. The trick is to not resist but to trust, give in and relax your body while they're doing their thing. We call this our "therapy". We do feel like newborns every after session, ready to go back to our desk jobs, fresh. Sometimes, after the massage, we eat at the next door Vietnamese restaurant. It feels like a mini quick vacation.

I've been looking for a good traditional Thai massage place in Oakland and haven't found one yet. I was randomly in Albany getting car repair and was surprised first at the huge number of massage places in 3 blocks. I checked the reviews on Yelp and folks were right this place is 100% legit. I've had a good number of Thai massages and this place was great and reasonable price.
This was just so weird. I got there and they were able to see me immediately. I let them know I am 9 months pregnant and they said no problem, they do prenatal massage. I get in and the therapist was HORRIBLE! She spent 40+ minutes rubbing the middle of my back. That's it. I told her my neck and shoulders and especially my feet hurt and she wouldn't move from the same spot. She finally said we were done and I was shocked! She never rubbed my hands, lower back, neck, or my feet! I mean come on, who doesn't rub a pregnant persons feet? I even checked at the end to see if my feet were gross or something but no, took a shower right before I got there. It was just so strange, I ended up coming home in tears and rubbing myself which would have cost less than the $75 I paid them for absolutely nothing.
I first found out about this place when a close friend got us both massages here for my birthday and I have been coming back ever since. They are so good at getting your knots out! I work and exercise a lot, so it definitely helps me out. I recommend asking for Ploy, she has a good sense of touch, strong, but also takes the time to check in with me as well!
I had a wonderful, relaxing massage at Siam Thai Massage over the weekend and I wanted to let everyone know about this hidden jewel new to Quincy. Siam Thai Massage just recently opened a few months ago so everything is clean and new there. I can't say enough about my experience there, from making my appointment to my massage, everyone was so friendly and professional. Looking forward to my next visit.

The massage started off rather mediocre, kind of like a first blind date where you don't expect much. We talked the whole time, and I was totally fine with that, and about 30 minutes in I thought - meh, nothing great. She started working towards my legs, but I had told her in the beginning that my shoulders were the culprit of my pain for over a month. Mid conversation I politely asked to refocus on my shoulders and THAT'S when the magic happened. She worked them bad boys like a scorned ex gf. I'm hurting today, but I feel so much better. Granted, not ALL my pain is gone, but I feel much more comfortable going through my day today.
The possible adverse effect of Thai traditional massage is an issue to be discussed. The question to be addressed is whether Thai traditional massage could cause any problem to cardiovascular system. A recent report by Buttagat et al. found that Thai traditional massage “was associated with significant increases in hear rate variability (increased total power frequency and high frequency).” Hence, it is no doubt that the massage might alter some cardiac function and can be problematic in the patients with underlying cardiovascular disease.

So if you read my previous reviews, you will see that I use to only see Summer....she answers the phone so its easy to ask her direct for an appt with her.....A month ago, Summer was gone for 2 weeks for Chinese New Year. Lily was still there so I ended up seeing her twice...and enjoyed it. When Summer got back, and to this day, I have yet to see her again for an appt. It almost seems like shes avoiding me....which might be okay, except after I had what can only be described as the WORST appt I have had...by far....given by Lily.
Proprioceptive studies are much more abundant than massage and proprioception combined, yet researchers are still trying to pinpoint the exact mechanisms and pathways involved to get a fuller understanding. Proprioception may be very helpful in rehabilitation, though this is a fairly unknown characteristic of proprioception, and "current exercises aimed at 'improving proprioception' have not been demonstrated to achieve that goal". Up until this point, very little has been studied looking into the effects of massage on proprioception. Some researchers believe "documenting what happens under the skin, bioelectrically and biochemically, will be enabled by newer, non-invasive technology such as functional magnetic resonance imaging and continuous plasma sampling".
